There are solar skylights on the market now that can be switched on to give you light at night. They do not require as much work upon installation and provide free light throughout the day.

Your window gives you great extra light and once the garden is planted quite a lovely view.. Thanks Julie, in terms of size, what do you think will be the ideal diameter for the pendant? The wall mounted lights are a great idea but unfortunately we didn't considered that initially - all the plastering and electrical has been already done. Thanks again!

The size of the windows in upstairs rooms are determined by the privacy rules, and take your neighbours into account. The “cone of vision” is assessed and windows if large at your house and overlooking neighbours, may not be allowed. Is your master bedroom window looking over the neighbours outdoor space. This will then determine how large the window can be.
