advice on south facing timber cladding

Hi there. We’re planning on building close to the beach in South Australia and need advice on whether to use (and if so which type of) timber cladding. We’re mainly interested in using it at the front of the house which is south facing, and a return which is west facing. It will cop quite full on south-westerly Winter weather.
Any advice on western red cedar or Iron Ash? Whether it’s advisable to use in such a situation and what the maintenance would be? Cost difference? Eco cred of each?
We want to to go grey but understand there could still be work involved.
Any advice appreciated!
Thank you.
