Hi annalisa 86 -- I see the lounge as your living room with sofa's, TV and in general, the place where you relax. The rectangular openings in the wall between the two rooms are beautiful, and are a unique feature in a home! Can you please provide more photos of each room to help us see the bigger picture and properly recommend where to place the furniture? Georgina has provided great options for the rumpus room: 1) cinema room, 2) home office, and 3) formal dining room. This is a large room with a sliding door to the balcony, which makes it a room that should be used for a purpose that makes a special statement. Do you love to cook and entertain family and friends? Do you have a barbecue grill out on the balcony? If so, a large, formal dining room would be perfect for this space, particularly during the summer when guests can go outside and enjoy being on the balcony too. Another idea is a game room with pool table, poker table, bar and small pub tables, which again, would be good if you like to entertain. You could give it a sports theme and have another TV here for friends to hang out and watch the game. This idea also goes well with having a barbecue grill and outdoor patio furniture on the balcony, so guests can move between the two areas. Or, you could make the living room a formal room and use it only on special occasions and use the rumpus room as the family room where everyone hangs out, watches TV and relaxes. You could even turn it into a multi-purpose room, where you have the family room, a sewing area (for example) and a home office. I'd have a look at the IKEA room layouts in their catalogue or online. You don't need to use their furniture to "borrow" their layout ideas.

Also love the buffet....it could be the "hero" of the room. It is beautiful and they are so hard to come by at a reasonable price. I have a much cheaper style mid century buffet and initially had the TV on top of it, but now the TV is wall mounted above it. The distance between the wall and the couch wall is about 4m and we have no issues with the TV being too high...you definitely need to factor that in if you wall mount it though...luckily I had a handyman friend helping me, otherwise I would have put the TV too high. With the TV being mounted, it actually makes the buffet more of a feature and anything that is put on the buffet is now "displayed" instead of being part of clutter with the TV. It looks great and I know yours will too if you wall mount the TV. That is the great thing about the mid century buffets...they seem to fit in just as well as modern furniture as they do with the classic furniture....and because your is "classic", it will never date...a great investment.

Which way is the room orientated ? In other words , where do you intend to put the TV , bookshelf , cabinets , etc ? To me , that is the wall you make a feature of , and as dreamer says , wallpaper ( or even timber or similar ) would be preferable . Having said all that , the other evening I went to a restaurant , and it had 1 side wall that was done in those 3D 'wavy' tile things -- I guess it was the feature wall ( the wall opposite had a TV , the bar , a couple of works of art ; the entrance wall was mostly glass and the door ; the rear was the kitchen ) but there was nothing apart from that on that wall , and it looked really smart , and lifted what would have been a pretty plain room . In a home situation , I guess you'd have say Wall 1 as the one with the cabinets and shelves and TV , and Wall 2 as the 'wavy' feature wall .
