Mirror wardrobe doors - dilemma
We are converting a bedroom into a den/extra living space but it is overwhelmed by large mirror slidjng doors.
I appreciate the arguments in support of such doors, but honestly I loathe them.
We use the storage space and I am reluctant to go to expense of replacing them altogether.
So, after endless hours on pinterest and reading previous advice here, I think we have two options.
Option A: Wallpaper the doors
Pros: We've found a very cool and funky geometric design that will add some edge to the room that we love. Not too funky though, and has white in it tie in with trim. Also safe to wipe clean.
Con: Some of the images I've seen where people have done this, it looks hit and mix. Some look great - very polished and smart, but others less so and it easy to tell that they are just covering up some ugly doors underneath.
Option 2: Wallpaper opposite wall and make a feature that draws the eye. Use window frosting to help minimise or tone down the mirror doors so they are less noticeable.
Interested in other people's experience with wallpapering or covering mirror doors, and suggestions in general that may assist.

5 years agoI love mirror wardrobes, they add an extra dimension to the room, great for dressing, if you cover them you will need to add a mirror to the room also, and a small freestanding selfie mirror doesn’t give the same impact as a full wall of mirror doubles the size of the room.

Comments (3)Hi, these doors look like the commonly used, Vinyl Wrap Plasterboard. Yes they can be painted. Just tape the silver frame to protect from accidental paint. Comments (17)We have the same layout as you in our 90s spec built home. We have Bunnings type cavity sliders so I imagine ours are about as cheap as you can get. They are awful - they are noisy when they slide so if one of us gets up in the night for the bathroom, we have to open the door in slow motion so as not to wake the other one up! We have them on our other wet rooms through the house and I find them not too bad acoustically but they don't screen anything in the ensuite. I would not recommend them at all. As for whether to have 1 or 2 doors, the only time I close the WIR door is when I am at my wits end haha! 5 years agoFirstly it’s not a bedroom so no mirror needed
But mirror adds to light in room, so first take the doors out of the room and see how you feel.
Second those sliding doors will still feel like a bedroom even if painted a solid colour which will be hard to get paint to stick uniformly. So ideally get rid of them and if you still need doors go bifold.
Third option is make a feature of them by adding a wall mural sticker to them.

Hi, suggestions - you could add panelling to make then look like french/ hamptons style mirror. you could install some ikea curtains and use as a back drop (block colour at back, sheer at front , must be very long.) . You could install barn style hinged doors. You could make it open shelving. You could remove altogether. You could add a nice wallpaper print to the doors, such as hamptons style blue and white or gold geometric and white. and match these colours to your cushions. I would only wall paper opposite wall if you keep the mirror. add a nice tall lamp to make the room bright and inviting and a throw on the couch. replace wall art. maybe paint the wall agreeable grey, reverve pewter or white. goodluck :-)
