Help improve front landscape/entrance!
Comments (13)Keep an eye on your bromeliads. Now that the tree has gone, they might not like so much sun and will need to be moved. Maybe under your front window? The stone edging screams 80's, I agree with removing it or growing something to cascade over the top. Stump removal can be expensive. Maybe attack the multiple stump clump with shovels and an axe to get it below ground level. You could put a birdbath or sculpture on top of the large stump? Even a large decorative pot? Clumping bamboos grow quickly and could add some softness. I like the previous suggestion of grasses too. Good luck with it....See MoreIdeas to improve the front of the house please?
Comments (8)Instead of the hassle of re-concreting the front, I'd simply put a garden bed with soft looking plants for interest along the edge of the concrete, then you won't notice the odd placement of the posts, it'll better delineate the front of the house and the front door entrance rather than the dirt visually blending into the concrete and it will soften the facade. Then paint the verandah posts and window frames in a tonal colour for a more modern look such as a woodland grey that will also help them recede a bit. Then one step further if you wanted to put plantation style shutters inside would make the dated 70s/80s window lines less obvious, make it look more modern and most importantly help with the strong sunlight which it looks like is an issue. And I love the idea of adding an old cane lounger/bench from eBay with a couple of bold stripe cushions and some pots of crassula and raphiolepsis (low maintenance and shade ok) to make it more of an area rather than just a thoroughfare....See MoreHi, need advice on how to improve the front of my house??
Comments (3)The front door is not visible from the street (it's behind the fence). It's a hot climate and a lot of the other houses around my area are similar to my house....See MoreIdeas please to help improve look of old red brick home on a budget
Comments (8)Are those roses in the garden ? If so , I guess you could embrace the era , and do the kerbing around the gardens in white paint , add a white painted bird bath in the middle of the lawn , and get a couple of gnomes and 3 concrete frogs ? Anyway , like everyone , I'd update the gardens , waterblast or sandblast or recover the paths and driveway , even something as basic as buying one of those sharp wheel things to do the lawn edges -- they used to be $30-40 ? The house itself , like everyone says , isn't bad . Personally I think its a bit dark , and while its too late now , the ( presumably ) original white wooden framed windows would have lightened it a bit , but hey , times change , wood rots , the windows were probably 'right' when they were replaced . But I would definitely do something about the greeny grey khaki gutters -- white would work and be light , charcoal is trendier right now and would work , especially with the light grey roof , whilst bright red would stand out , lift the brick colour , work with the roof , and would be my choice , but I realise not everyone wants to stand out ....See MoreKay Bodman
