No range hood in kitchen

I am very short and am not having any overhead cupboards in my new kitchen. I was told by my cabinet makers that I now do not require a rangehood. I personally think that a range hood will be an eyesore and will stand out too much. I have a kitchen window and a very open house in a tropical climate. I'm using HiMac as a splashback as I want to avoid having to clean grout around tiles. It will be a white kitchen with very clean lines. I'd love to hear from people without range hoods in their kitchen to ease my mind.

you will probably end up getting a build up of grease on above wall and ceiling after a few years.

I assume you are looking at Miele 626x series oven. The Culinario H6267BP is a very good choice. There is a promo 600$ off at the moment till November 30th, see http://www.miele.com.au/domestic/cooking-baking-8-3219.htm. The flexiclip that comes with the oven is very handy and can be left in there in the self cleaning cycle. The perforated tray is also great for bread baking. H6267B is still a good choice, if you don't want to pay for pyro function. If you are set on Sirius brand, SL906 L850 is another option. Baffle filter works pretty good; I have one on my big whispair undermount unit. The perimeter extraction in SL907 may work fine. It will depend on your cooking. SL906 probably can extract air better, but it does not look as cool.

Yes, but are you using the gap where rangehood was to centre, or the centre of the cook top. If you have cabinetry along the wall then you can hide the fact that the extractor fan/rangehood is not centre of the cook top. Or that is how it appears in your photos.

Hello 61karwin, I do not have a range hood just an exhaust fan. I do not do much in the way of frying, I am however rather good at 'carbon' but find with a good breeze thru from open windows that it is no problem. The fan does need cleaning every now and then but I get a tall person to assist: a young one who is happy to get onto the bench! I do not see a problem unless your home is not well vented and you like cooking hot chips! Cheers Margot

I would highly recommend that you some type of Rangehood. Have you ever seen "Ceiling Cassette Rangehoods" they are in-obtrusive and still do a great job of helping to keep your house clean and free of cooking odors.

I have a kitchen with no upper cabinets and a rangehood. It's indispensible as it does wick high condensation away when steaming and boiling items. Also great for a cooking light. I don't think the rangehood stands out too much honestly. It's plain stainless with a flue that goes to the ceiling. I like it.
