Hi all, I'm new to this and would like to any feedback from others who have installed refrigerative air conditioning with ducts under a raised timber floor, and what issues they may have experience by using a common heating and cooling ducts. We are also building a new home that will have raised timber flooring so we can install ducted heating but, in our case, there is no roof space to install ducts in the ceiling in any case because our house will have 2 skillion roofs, one at 15° and the other at 7.5° pitch, both meeting in the center of the house, and running the entire length of the house. The other challenge we have is that half the house along one side will have raked ceilings in the living, dining and kitchen areas and will extend along the entry hall way, whilst the other half of the house where the bedroom bathroom laundry etc., will have flat 2.75m high ceiling and the available roof space will be minimal. The option of ducting the cooling beneath the house is attractive because we also don't need bulkheads.

We also went a slightly bigger system than we needed, so it never runs at 'full' capacity. Very cheap to run, compared to an under-sized system we had previous that just constantly ran at full pelt.

There's a move away from gas to the extent that new suburbs where I live are not even being provided with gas mains. Evap cooling when we researched some time back required some windows open and I remember people complaining about that during last summer's smoke. Regardless of which systems you choose, I could not agree more with oklouise, start with good solar passive design and insulation, that's the most efficient way of reducing the reliance on and cost of heating and cooling systems.

Hi , My house has very old twenty year old ducted air conditioning system . The wall system is downstairs and it was a pain turning it off . During a service , two years ago they discovered a remote inside one of the vents ! I now stand at the top of the stairs , aim and off it goes . Find out what model you are being given and google search if you can work your system from your phone . Perhaps the upgrade system will do so .
