Really good basic decorating. Now accessorise to give it some finish - an indoor plant to hide the extension cord socket, some artwork on the wall beside the lounge, a couple of cushions on the lounge and something colourful at one end of the entertainment unit - maybe a nice bowl. You can even plan a cosy throw for winter. The greens like Helenscolour used will really cheer the area up, but you could use any colours you like. This is the beauty of your basic colours, you can change the accessories to suit your moods or the seasons. Do you need some end tables at all? A lamp or lamps could go on them for some soft lighting if you wanted.

It's just that the carpet doesn't sit nicely with the wall colour. You need some accent colour in there so your chair is fine but I would add or replace some of the cushions on the lounge. The artwork is over your head so bring that down to eye level and I would look for a new colour for the wall as that is the easiest to change. Hopefully you don't live in a too warm climate as the carpet is a warm colour and the toning the wall will add to the warmth. I realise that grey is very popular at present so my other suggestion would be a huge grey mat to cover a much larger part of the existing carpet.

Hi Mon, have you seen the Dulux Paint App? You can download it to your phone for free. The idea is that you can take a photo of of the space you want to paint and the App allows you to change the wall colour by selecting from their colour range; Dulux says this enables you to actually see what the new colour looks like next to your floor and other furnishings without the need of trying out several paint pot samples. I have not personally used it but the concept is pretty cool. Hope this is of help. Malcolm

Hi, If you wish to draw down the height of the ceiling then use darker shade above and lighter below. We have 16 foot ceilings and did this in our kitchen and breakfast rooms which are quite narrow . The other rooms have wide friezes at the rail level and are painted the same colour below and above .
