Shower bath installation issue

Hi, we have just installed a bathtub which will be used as a shower bath. after setting in the bath and adding the aquacheck plasterboard we have noticed the plasterboard is rubbing against the bath lip when we stand in the bath. we know the issues isnt coming from the mortar bed. we need some advice on how we can stop the plasterboard from rubbing against the bath lip? please note the bath and walls have been installed- next to do is add the tiles. thank you!

If the bath is sitting on the timber frame or brick frame correctly, there should not be movement of the bath.

Since the frame and plasterboard are installed Is there a way of fixing the issue without starting from scratch? for example cutting the plasterboard are siliconing? thanks

My house and bathroom are small so space saving is critical. The original old bathroom layout has a small square shower and a separate half bath, with an even smaller basin right next to the toilet. It was claustrophobic and the half bath was only used for storing cleaning stuff. When we renovated, the bathroom was gutted, keeping most of the original plumbing points. Though we are not "bath persons" we decided to have a shower over (normal length) bath with frameless swing glass screen. From past experiences, I find it easier to clean a shower-over-bath than a fully tiled shower area, or one with a shower base. When visitors with young children came to stay, having a bath was handy. Combining shower/bath gave us room for a long vanity with plenty of bench space and away from the toilet. It now has ample of space in the middle for changing and moving around each other. Shower-over-bath definitely is an efficient use of small bathroom space.

I'm not a fan of shower over bath either but agree sometimes for some people it's the best solution. The makeover is beautiful. Two things, just in my opinion. I always wish for a grab rail when using a shower over a bath, as I sometimes do in hotels. I felt that way even when younger and more agile. Surely there could be a way of installing something to hold onto when stepping in and out without it looking like a nursing home? I suppose in a bathroom such as that shown I would hold onto the towel rail. I've always wondered about vessel basins that slope inwards, is it a problem for cleaning behind them?

We have a shower with a single pane of glass and no door. It’s works perfectly and I love it. We made our opening only 500mm which is plenty and helps reduce splash. Yes, a bit of water does spray a little onto the floor tiles but not a problem in our bathroom layout. If our water pressure was super strong it might be more of an issue. We have a linear drain under the shower head than spans the width, with the whole shower area falling towards it slightly. Nice and neat with no awkward diagonal tile cuts. Every time I see a photo of that layout with the freestanding bath within the shower area I immediately think how dirty the bath would constantly look. I wouldn’t do it for that reason.

Um, why? Looks difficult to clean, difficult to access, and impossible to safely bath kids. I would avoid at all costs. No prospective real estate buyer ever said "I love the combined bath and shower arrangement" as they are generally universally hated, especially if there are toddlers, or elderly in the household . If you do go with this dangerous proposition then make sure you have plenty of well anchored grab rails so you don't knock your teeth out when your head hits the floor. We need pics. I have a shower over the bath. I would say the bath is moving after the weight of people hop in it. Unlike to be the plasterboard moving and rubbing.

You can buy different baths for different installations. It’s hard to see but it looks like you may have a bath meant for a full island installation instead of a bath meant for an inset installation. Worth checking. Do you have the installation instructions for the bath? If not, Google insert vs island bath installation. And again the walls won’t be moving with the bath moving first unless there is an earth quake happening, the problem isn’t the plasterboard. And a bit of movement may be normal until the tiling is finished and the bath rim is fully supported assuming the bath has been installed correctly.

I ha another look at the pics. Are you sure everything is level? The plasterboard seems to butt more closer to the bath in some areas as per Kate’s comment. There should be a small gap which is then “covered” with the waterproofing layer and tiles before finishing with silicon. I’m not sure you have the installation steps in the right order. Is this a DIY project?

Has the plumber bedded the bath in sand/cement or is the bath on legs

We had cut out the plasterboard to just above the lip and that wasnt the issue. Seems like the frame the bath is inserted into is rubbing against it. yes its on mortar bed
