Colour schemes for a very large lounge

Dilemna! We have a very large living room, heritage building being an old PO. I'm torn over colour schemes and how to treat the abundant trims, including picture rails, skirting boards, window frames etc.

We're both not afraid of bold colour choices and we're keen to create a luxurious and warm space for family and friends.

I have attached some "before" shots from the real estate listing and then some more recent shots showing the floors sanded and the room totally empty.

The ceilings must stay as they are, kauri panels from original construction in 1895.

We have sanded the floors and are now waiting for the painters but first we need to decide on colours, trim colours etc. The ceilings and cupboards are a warm cedar colour and the floor is very creamy honey.

The large arched front window and the other 2 windows are a sticking point. Do we paint the walls and the trims the same colour? or a lighter or darker version of the wall colour?

Some of our favourite Porters blues and greens are on the shortlist:

Hampton's Blue: https://www.porterspaints.com/colours/greens-and-blues/hampton-s-blue

Antique Blue: https://www.porterspaints.com/colours/greens-and-blues/antique-blue

Bayleaf: https://www.porterspaints.com/colours/greens-and-blues/bayleaf

We have a very eclectic mix of furniture and certainly not enough to fill the room! All the PO builtin cupboards and the old counter a.k.a. "the bar" will stay. That alcove could also be a deeper or lighter shade of the main room colour. And then there's our wonderful marble fireplace - black with grey/white veins.

I would love to hear your design and colour ideas. We're looking for warm and cosy, but bright and bold. We have lots of art works to hang and masses of books to store as well.

Below is an example of an ideal room i love:

and another: (stripping back the timber isn't an option - life's too short!)

~swoon~

and Black!

We have completed just one room in the house so far, and as we were able to paint the timber panelled ceiling, there were less restrictions on colour: white ceiling and Porter's Half Wood smoke around windows and skirting boards, walls are "Gulf Stream" still a few touch ups to go and then we can empty boxes! yay! This will be our "office"

Ideas please! and Thank you all so much!

I shall add some "after" photos in about a month or so.

all the best, Mary
