Our clients had a small, dark and dated colour scheme with a door that you couldn't fully open, which has now been transformed into a quaint and sophisticated bathroom.

This small bathroom challenged the way we are creative and innovative by doing more with less space.

The client brief:

Maximising the space was the main priority.
The aesthetic focused on bright, and contemporary with accents of blue vintage tiles.
It was also important to incorporate the right materials and finishes to maximise functionality and look where possible.

The entry to the bathroom and the best use of the natural light comes from the existing window were factors that determined the best position for the vanity and shower. We had to change the layout completely. From a door that you couldn't fully open because it was hitting the toilet pan to the shower area that was destroying the window sill, it feels great to be able to improve the bathroom design and the clients' lives.

We went with ceramic vintage patterned tiles from Kalafrana Ceramics which allowed us to tick the bright, crisp aesthetic while injecting striking pops of blue.

Love the new bathroom... fantastic improvement with a pretty simple makeover. The new floor is a delight though at first I thought the old floor wasn't too bad. I also wonder if the cupboards would be even better a more ivory colour but not certain about that.

I like what you have done i this bathroom, there is only one thing that could have been done better and that’s the position of the mixer tap for the shower. You should have access to it without getting wet , so it should have been positioned on the back wall closer to the towel hook. So you can turn it on and wait for correct water temperature before you get in.

Although I like the tiles it’s too much to have on floor and the wall, they would have made more of a pop just doing one or the other. Vanity is a nice colour.

Yes it was cramped , and i was going to say yes it was dark , but I even wonder about that ? Accepted , you have added some white ( which reflects ) but the window is actually smaller , and there is no other visible light source , so I'm going to guess the 'after' pics were on a lot brighter day , or there was one of those umbrella flashes or similar involved ?

I like the warmth of the wood , the character of the wooden windows , the cabinetry , the classiness of the door . Okay , the bath looks basic , and the door hits the toilet , and everything on the window sill needs to go in that lovely wall cabinet , but look at the gold toned fittings , the white tiles , the ambience .

So you now have a flat white boring wooden door , a characterless cabinet , it even looks like an aluminium window , no bath , and something that , to me , is a pretty safe generic powder room with a shower . The tiles are nice , but imagine them laid on the floor in the 'before' bathroom ! That would have added some Wow !

Really , how much time do we spend in a bathroom anyway ? Personally , I would have preferred $1-2000 cleverly spent on the 'before' bathroom , keeping almost all the character .
