Looking for recommendations for a sloping yard rock area. Would like to grow something in between the rocks. To soften the look. I am in Northern California. Thanks

There are several plants that work great in rockeries. The direction of exposure will dictate plant selections for shade or sun but I am assuming you also need drought tolerant plantings.
The purple ground cover in the photo is red mother of thyme, Thymus serphyllum. It is a great drought resistant plant. Others that work in rockeries are.
