different shade of carpet on different floors

We have 2 kids rooms upstairs and have chosen a dark grey for these as both rooms have a lot of natural light but down stairs up till now had been hard wood flooring and we would like to put carpet in the bedrooms. Both these rooms are a bit darker than the ones upstairs so we were thinking of putting a lighter shade of grey in the same style of carpet in both these rooms. Is this a mistake? Should we keep them all the same colour throughout?
