HU-348388819 is yours unfinished chipboard as appears to be in the original poster's pics, or is it something else? There were some interesting materials used in ceilings of that era which could be worth preserving. I've seen them mentioned in sales listings as valuable original features, though the names of the exact materials escape me at the moment. On the other hand, with any unfamiliar materials of that era you need to check if it contains asbestos. Another thing to consider is your climate, as the insulation is likely to be inadequate in a ceiling with exposed beams.

Great question siriusky! In the laundry the cabinetry is a white with a careaera marble tops. The splashback will be white subway tiles. So I am thinking black handles and a black or very dark floor, (knowing it will show everything. In the first bathroom, there is a Tasmanian wood (Macrocarpa) bench that runs the length of a wall with a white basin on top. The shower in this room has a white base fitted so I am looking for wall tiles and a floor tile and am keen to carry the dark theme through and run it up the wall behind the wood and the basin but something much lighter to form the wall of the shower and behind the toilet. The 4th wall I will paint. The 2cnd bathroom, again dark tiles on the floor, the walk-in shower needs to be lighter color along with the walk-in toilet. There is a spa and double basins which again sit on a macrocarpa wood top. So wood white and hopefully a dark floor.

Paint companies make a specific paint for ceilings called "Ceiling Paint". It is very white, very flat, very matt to help conceal any imperfections in the plaster ceiling. It also seems to be thicker and less drippy than wall paint. So your recessed ceiling should probably be ceiling white as far as ease of application and concealing imperfections. Actually....I have one more white paint question everyone if you don’t mind! We will be using terrazzo tiles in the bathroom (off white base with Carrara marble chips) and white textured subway tiles. I had planned to paint the remaining sections of wall white too but now I’m on this white paint odyssey I’m wondering if it’s going to work or if I’d be better to go with a contrasting colour instead. If I do paint with white, should I match it back with the wall tiles? The closest colour is lexicon which is obviously pretty cold/blue - the room has a large east facing skylight but I’m concerned about it feeling a bit sterile...appreciate your thoughts!
