Colour scheme for a 1985 double brick home

I like the brick so I just wish to paint the gutters, window trims, uprights and eaves. The roof is staying the galvanised colour as it is (solar panels to come) but all the mission brown has to go! At the moment I'm thinking the Colourbond colours Windspray for the horizontal trims and vertical posts and Surfmist (or maybe something lighter/whiter?) for the window trims and eaves (to complement the crisp look of the shutters?) And a bright yellow front door! But I'm not very good at this so please could I have some advice and other alternative colour schemes if you think there's something better you suggest? (I'm not a huge fan of black) Many thanks. :)

This is a great colour combination to choose from, and a yellow front door would look fabulous. Add beautiful outdoor lighting to compliment your gorgeous house

The roof in the first pic seems to be an almost silvery blue , so I'd play on that and do at least the gutter and barge board around the top in a bright mid 'metallic' blue , and I would even investigate sanding the window frames and re-staining them in a lighter brown -- it risks keeping that 80's vibe , but I suspect the blue gutters would lift it enough that it would all work . The other thing is that if you do the window frames white , combined with the white shutters , its going to look almost 'over-whitened' .

Before and after! It's been awhile since I've posted anything but right now we have just finished the backyard it's been a major mission. Still got a lot more things to do around the house but I just thought I'll share these pictures. I'm not sure if the Japanese buxus will grow nicely as the soil is very damp in that area.

Ahh, JEC, I did not realize I was Australia! Very sorry! Yes, I'm in US.(wish I was there sometimes, especially since 11/2016). Anyway, so oklouise tried to help me but I assumed she was here and then I was wondering where she shopped for materials that actual, knowledgeable and experienced advisors! Sorry about that Mrs. Oklouise! I appreciate the help too. It was only a small part of it I didnt quite understand and that's simply because oklouise is not here. I am positive if she was, she'd adapt to the ways and how they do things here. So, come on over mrs oklouise! You're welcome anytime! Siriuskey, yes they "paint" the cedar here, but they use solid color stain so it looks like paint. I am positive though that there are cedar built things with actual paint. But that's really a no-no with cedar. After it gets older, some transition to semi transparent stain, then, when even older they go to solid colored stain. Wish I was a pilot! mpilot1 was made for me by my company years and years ago as their name had the word pilot in it; since they already had a "marc" there when I started, they gave me marcpilot1. They've since closed(after 40 years), since I had had it for so long at that point, I took the name/address with me. Think I should put some of the after pics up, like when I finally finish this project for mother? Thx again for all help, especially oklouise! God Bless.

You have a classic post-war cream brick home, and the cream brick is the feature with its subtle variation in colour. The dark brown accent colours, which are not original, were probably added in the early 1970's. With your tight budget I would not be rendering the brick. You may like to read my blog post about why you should NOT render a classic home. https://secretdesignstudio.com/render-brick-home-tribute-triple-fronted-blonde-brick-veneer-home/ I would be looking at removing the "feature" awning and replacing it with something more appropriate to the home such as vertical black and white stripe which I suggested to these clients who have a similar brick and tile combination to yours. I would then look at repainting the gutters and fascias to co-ordinate with the awning. Introduce some landscaping to soften the look, and consider painting or rendering the dark brown base brickwork (but never the cream brickwork). Finish all of the timber window frames in the original Dulux Vivid White. I would not be adding the fake Victorian-style verandah to the home as you have proposed with its ornate iron lace. It will just look so wrong mixing these elements from different centuries from homes with very different proportions. I don't think I have actually seen a new renovation with fake decorative iron lace since the 1970s! At the end of the day, you won't be able to "modernise" or change the style of the existing home with your budget. What you can do is to celebrate the 1960's character that you already have and build on the original parts of your home which will be more cost-effective. Orange . That's all you need . A mid orange on the gutters , that pinky timber gable , and the garage door , and also re-do the reddish burgundyish stripes on the awnings in that mid orange . Summer , beach , the bricks are nice , the roof is nice , the trim isn't and neither are the awnings . I did wonder about doing the window frames in a charcoal , but i think that is too modern and not enough beach for the era and theme of the house , and will almost look like black eyes . Just a simple , honest upgrade and update is all that is needed .

Thanks very much Pottsy99 - you won't believe this but before I recently switched to greys I was looking at dark blues - but finding the right blue did my head in. But if you have any suggestions...? The first pic is a real estate agent pic which I posted so you'd get the vibe. The second pic is much more accurate - the roof is defintely a silver galvanised colour.

Thanks very much Julie Herbert, Yes the interior walls and beams are 'Natural White' and thanks for confirming the yellow door! It's such a happy colour and I'm looking for some bright colour around the place. So if I did the horizontals in Windspray and the eaves and uprights in Surfmist you think that would work as a colour combination? And yes an Arts and Crafts door knocker and 5 lights across the front of the house (no street lights here) will make a huge improvement I think.

I think it will look beautiful, they definitely compliment each other, love the idea of your lights and a unique door knocker, will look fabulous. Adding garden lighting could look great also.

I just looked on the Dulux colour charts , and if you look at something like Passionate Blue or Misty Blue ( that seems a slightly lighter version of Passionate ) ; or True Blue would be another option IMO .

I like timber windows to look timber , but if you wanted or needed to paint them , do the windows in approx half the tone of the blue you did the gutters in IMO , so if you went True Blue , do the windows International or similar ; with the others you'd go 'down' to a Prompt or Bio Blue .
