White would not look the best. I would use monument or similar. Keep the contrast of the brick with dark, and the weatherboard with white. I would also look at painting the posts and railings in front of weatherboard a monument colour as well.

What are you going to do with the concrete slab verandah, and the bit of slab that runs around the brick?

dreamer - definitely going to be tiling the concrete slab verandah (tiles TBD). The slab that runs around the brick is super ugly, I'm not sure what can be done other than some paint..maybe try and blend in with the brick mortar colour?

I would even look at painting the slab that is showing in bricks, the same dark colour as the window frames….monument..?

The other option is to paint or clad the bricks just around the front door/entrance to brighten it up..so many options!

I think painting your door in monument but in high gloss would look wonderful, even satin would look beautiful, add new door hardware, love your large pot, you could try that beside door , try and mirror that with a cluster of feature pots where your large one is , adding feature lighting would lighten up the area.

Great ideas Julie...there's always room for more pot plants haha. Thanks everyone for your help, it sounds like monument/charcoal is the way to go for the front door, windows and trims around the brick.

I'd like to see the whole house , but as a guideline , you would try and make the entire place look like it is planned as a whole .

As far as the windows , I'd be the opposite to everyone else -- why replace the brown aluminium windows ? I assume they still 'work' and seal when needed ?

The old sash windows often get rotten , stick , don't seal properly , the weights and ropes fall off and you have to prop the windows open , and they generally aren't secure .

So I'd be inclined to paint or put charcoal tape on the brown window frames , and put new charcoal framed aluminium windows in the weatherboard part of the house , in a similar style to the brown ones . That will make the whole house look more modern and consistent , plus black against white looks smart .

Similarly , as others have said , do all the trim ( gutters , railings , etc in one colur ( presumably charcoal , but pink if you must haha ! ) -- right now it looks like two seperate houses that someone has got the hot glue gun , and bonded together -- black or brown gutters here , white over there , etc .
