Yes doing it partially would love weird. You need to follow have a look at Three Birds Renovations for their and their followers brick house transformations. Rendering is a waste of money when you can just use paint.

Rendering would just make it look like an 80’s home that has been rendered. So NO don’t do it.

What colour are your window frames. Are they black or a dark colour? Two options without rendering. Pick up the same colour as that down pipe in your second photo and do the trim, gutters, boards, fascia’s garage doors, fences, in that colour. Get rid of the dated blue. Also paint out the different coloured brick in the arches. OR. Paint out all the trim, gutters, facials, garage doors fences in a dark colour same as your window frames. But leave the arch colour as is. Then landscape landscape landscape. Oh and also a new substantial letter box.

timber deck would look good. Another thought, but this is a builders job, Remove the arches and replace with big chunky timber beams and support posts and a new timber deck, with all black trim for gutters etc.

Thanks Dreamer. I'm liking the dark trim idea. Windows are a combo of bronze and monument grey at the moment, eventually will all be monument. Makes sense for trim to be same. I ike the timber too! Thanks for the input.

Can you take a new photo. The real estate photo will have been touched up colour wise. Also a close up of front verandah. To add decking over you need the door step height to be sufficient.

I have to say that while painting all your trims in a dark colour is a great idea, nothing is going to make those bricks look good. If you don’t want a smooth rendered look then you should consider bagging and painting the bricks. Painting the bricks without bagging first might look ok initially but over time the grooves will become dirty looking and it won’t look good at all! Decking over your tiles would look ok but unless you use composite decking ( more expensive) it will require maintenance. Would probably be less expensive to retile and look just as good.

Thanks for the feedback Wendyec. Appreciate blonde brick isn't everyone's cup of tea but trying to make it work... if it can't then I'll consider painting it/bagging or maybe limewashing.

I would go a dark colour on your trims, as you can see it looks beautiful against blonde bricks, I think using a dark paver would look great also, it would change the look of the house completely without changing the bricks .

Updating the garden, using plants suitable for your climate, love the retaining wall, you could plant along the front as well if you want, also adding a stylish letter box would complement the garden and your lovely home .

Julie, I love our retaining wall too - thank you! I"ve been searching for letter boxs and also thinking of looking for a stone-like tile in colours in tones of Dreamers paint options, so maybe not super dark floor... but will grab samples of both :)

I do love the timber element, with the dark trim and blonde bricks, yes a stone letter box would look wonderful, grab a sample of tile colours light and dark, you will know as soon as you put them against your brick which one you will love. Can’t wait to see what you choose. It is going to look beautiful.

I like the brick tone , but the arches and the blue tones both date it as 80's . One other thing that I can't see if anyone has asked , but is it on a corner site ? You would need to make sure you are consistent if it is .

I'd do the trim around the roof , the fences and that row of darker bricks around each arch , in a charcoal . That will slightly modernise and slightly hide the 'older' tones . As Dreamer and Julie Herbert have mentioned , darker tiles will help too .

One small thing -- I think I'd do the letterbox in a darker stone -- that will tie it in with the new trims . Doing a lighter stone similar to the bricks will add to the misery IMO haha -- its livable , but I would like the contrast .

The one thing I haven't made a suggestion for , are the garage doors . Paint them a sunny colour ( red , orange , yellow , etc ) if on a budget , but I'm a big fan of changing them out for nice timber ones , especially if it is a corner site -- it will not only look more modern , but more upmarket IMO .

Then 3or 4 large colourful pots ( big , like 80cm or bigger ) with a good mix of plants -- the existing gardens are nice , but almost all green , and wispy . So have some with redder leaves , yellow flaxes , a cactus or two , variety and colour and interest !

Thanks Pottssy, some new things to consider here. Yep, it's a corner block, and all in the same colours as the front. The photos show street view. So will be changing to match.

Re the dark tile, it gets really hot here (qld) so I'm cautious about.

I get what you mean about the letterbox, will look into some dark versions... found a few ideas so far.

Garage doors will likely be updated in the future.
