A built in cleaning system would be handy... so it can be empty and totally hosed out with hot water and disinfected. I imagine there would be some vomit and urine messes. So you need a padding material that is both soft and safe, but hardy and able to be cleaned. You could also want a spot for some sort of super strong window. Maybe a very narrow high slit so that they can be monitored.

This issue is causing terrible problems with mental health,violence and crime in our society, it has got worse by far in the 1 1/2 years since this thread was put up. Ice is now easier to get than almost any other drug here in Aus, and so addictive. If people want to put their ideas, it might help authorities.

I didn't notice how old the thread was either. It makes sense to provide a specialised facility because people affected in that way can't just be left in the general area with staff and patients, but it's sad to think of what else the money could be spent on.

Did you see the two recent news stories, just this week a naked man thinking he was being chased ran into someone's home and eventually after a lengthy siege the police entered the house and found no-one else, in the other case a man locked himself in someone's bathroom and trashed it even ripping the toilet up and throwing it out the window.

In the paper it said families are having to send their folks to Thailand for rehab. There should be affordable places here.

it's quite a big problem ..our psych wards are housing drug affected patients instead of psych patients..our orderlies can't do their jobs as they double as security guards when a code is called to help out the medical staff..there's drugs everywhere ..on the wards ..they shoot up ends up in hospital with an infection..they are put on an IV antibiotic drip and that's worse as then they have a direct route to inject in lol

when I worked at St V's 20 years ago they used to abscond and buy drugs just outside the hospital lol that whole strip Nicholson St up from the corner to the exhibition building was drugs..

the things you see in a hospital makes you want to give up some days ..people who needs a bed can't get one ..those that abuse the system knows all the loop holes..they think the system owes them..

I used to be very idealistic when I first started out now not so much..some days I just feel tired ..

it's not simple..it's good that they go into rehab ..but if they don't cut old ties they will soon get back to drugs..even if they don't find drugs ..drugs will find them ..

I don't wish my kids to be rich or a doctor or anything ..I wish them happiness and not to be affected by drugs..drugs destroys the whole family not just the person affected ..

can't sleep Tribbletrouble .. nope can't find my notes still ..looked all over ..they must be in Geelong ..can't find my engagement ring or bracelet either..haven't told hubby as yet..just hope I haven't chucked them out by mistake ..I tend to hide things in very safe places ..that even robbers would have trouble finding ..have found most of my jewellery which means I've lost them for good..

Your jewellery might be more easily found in the daylight. It might be at your other house or stick between the seat of your car, in a washing up glove, anywhere.

and I haven't buried them in the garden that's for sure..hubby buried 2 bottles of Grange for the kids and well couldn't remember where lol

Instead of reinventing wheels, people should take a look at what's being done in enlightened European countries with large populations that are already well set with thoughtful and tested solutions. Unfortunately a lot of "study tours" tend to target the UK only - probably because of fear of foreign languages, but seriously, the Germans, French, Dutch and Scandinavians do this stuff really well.
