It can either look really dramatic or too dark, depending on the size of the room as well as your other components. I've attached a couple of images of our work using dark tiles, the smaller bathroom we have surrounded the bath with dark tiles but then balance it with an extra large mirror to bounce the light around the room. The larger bathroom we have taken the floor colour way onto the wall but used a different texture on the walls for drama. Hopefully this gives you more of an idea but you shouldn't to nervous of the room being dark, it's where you can create a contrast as well as textures. if the budget allows for it, porcelain tiles are my recommendation. They look better, have smaller grout lines, can get them to look like any modern stone, like marble, granite, travertine or even available in wood look slats. My hot tip is the less grout the better, which means the smaller the tile the more grout lines, stay away from mosaic on the floor, I've seen too often these being ripped out because the grout dates and ages from soap scum etc. After seeing grey, black and various colours on floors, I would always go with white on the floor, easy to keep clean and no fading of the tile profile. my suggestions would be to leave the toilet, bath and vanity in the existing locations, move the bathroom door and install the new shower in that corner...this means reducing the wardrobe to add a new bathroom door but an extra wardrobe would add more storage in the bedroom ..the new shower and door would have to smaller than ideal but still within standard sizes available and a hinged door could have a towel rail attached and is better for moisture control and it might be possible to recycle the existing door and architraves

Hi squirrel30. I ended up, on a professional's advice, having the whole bathroom stripped and redone. It actually worked out cheaper than any of the seemingly more innovative solutions. It seemed a shame to discard a lot of stuff that was in good order, but to get the result we wanted it proved the best approach and I'm delighted with the result. We had the floor pulled up and replaced with 600 x 600 textured grey tiles and 900 wide tiles in the shower with a grate at the end so in a very, very large shower we have only 3 grout lines and they are dark grey. We used slab tiles on the walls in the shower with dark grey grouting and 600 x 600 tiles elsewhere. Again resulting in very few grout lines, and no glass at all! I'm still interested to know more about microcement but I can't get anyone to answer inquiries. I've responded to a dozen or so ads but nobody has ever bothered to contact me. Not sure I would trust a supplier who is that disinterested in potential customers!!
