I think you could get the telly put over the fireplace. Might need a mantle to deflect radiant heat, not sure. But on the cables and power, I imagine they can get that sorted. Im guessing there is a wall behind you when you took the photos. I agree that a low corner modular sofa would look great. Just don't get it so long that it is up against the fireplace wall. Placed into that corner of end and piano walls . Then pop your cute chair where the sofa is now. Large ( big enough for the sofa front legs sit on it, I'm guessing 2x3m or even 3x4m) patterned rug to define the area. Can you move the piano to another room or against the computer area wall? Can you make the small windowed room the homework hub? Imagine a long bench against the window ( Ikea do a good cheap range that you make to fit your space). Ensuring the computers are in line of sight from the kitchen(?). Pull out the table to give it more space around it. Or flip it to run the other direction. Hard to tell from the pics the dimensions. Paint a lighter shade as mentioned before. A sketch of your floorplan would be really helpful :)

A colourful throw over the "back" of the sofa would help to add a pop of colour and break up the "wall" of colour that the back of the sofa currently provides. I also like the other ideas for a low console table behind the table and something hanging above the fireplace on the brick wall. Depending upon powerponts, antenna cabling and your affection for the pendant light, you could completely flip the room and put the dining table near the fireplace, spin the sofa around so that the "seat" (and cushions, etc) face the entry and put the TV on the wall opposite the fireplace.

The room decor and styling is too heavy for an entrance and isn't consistent with a beach theme home. Would the floor boards underneath the carpet match those of the open plan living area beyond the entrance? Consistent floor treatments would draw the eye to what lies beyond and the timber floor boards would meet your beach theme brief as well as reduce maintenance of light carpet in the high traffic area. The colour on your walls is lovely, but a little too heavy for the room. Can you take the wall colour back a few shades and use the current stronger version to repaint the mirror frame and buffet? Agree with previous advice to remove all wall items and to place something light and bright on the wall above the current buffet. How about the existing boxes, re-hung in a more haphazard square style pattern with some shells or other flotsam and jetsam displayed within them along with a couple of small prints? Painting the inside back of the small boxes in different shades of blue and the outside your current wall shade would complement the room nicely. What lighting is there in the room? A pendant could add light to the room, draw the eye up and the contribute to the beach theme.I hope some of the above is useful. Good luck and look forward to seeing how you go!

You are on the right track... as you have it laid out at the moment I would agree that either the top or bottom need to line up. Otherwise if you want a less structured look you need to make it more obvious. I like the idea of black and white images... however coloured okay if you can keep the colours balanced.
