it's beautiful! congrats on the new digs! you will get lots of good ideas on here. my first thought is to decide how you are going to use the room.
i see that the furniture is placed far away from what i would consider the most important feature--the fireplace. but i understand about the access to the terrace. i would not place the furniture the way the picture shows :)

Thanks mousemaker. Purpose is to two-fold; relax in the evenings with a book / glass of wine / watch t.v. and for entertaining when friends visit; pre-dinner drinks / after dinner drinks etc. This site is a great source of info from all the photo's but am seeking advice from those that are far more experienced than I. I think your new space needs to have the seating around the fireplace . Two sofas and two chairs or one 3 seater sofa and four chairs or a square sectional and two chairs. A good fabric for dogs and kids is a micro-fiber . Also they make great fabric for out door furniture that you can use indoors. Keep all the fabrics in a neutral tones then you can add your color with the toss pillows and decor. You can go to the browns or the greys. Find ideas on this web site for ideas. Start with a great area rug that you can get your color direction from.

The room as shown in brochure is very nice. I'd follow their lead. Often they have experienced designers choosing furniture etc. I like their choice of neutral colors for sofa & 2 chairs. You could even add 2 more chairs across from those chairs if you need more seating. The area rug is a little small. Sofa & chairs will look better if rug is under about 1/2 to 2/3. Here's a nice oriental-type area rug and pillows that add color and coordinate with the rug. Whatever rug you choose, have pillows to coordinate with the rug. They chose a black and white area rug and a plain black pillow and a print black pillow & a red pillow for accent. It looks really nice (I think they have too many pillows and do not like the brown-beige ones). Their table is good, large enough to serve the people on the sofa and the guests in the chairs also a glass top so you can see the rug. Except for the windows (& probably the built-ins across the room) they forgot to add height interest to the room. A bright large painting over the fireplace is all you need for the height issue. I like windows without curtains, but simple drapes to match the walls can look fine if you like In the right corner a large living plant would be better. Dimmers on the lights.
