Moore House

The Moore house at Aeries Inlet had it's initial concept design done by Wayne Ketchen and then handed over to Ardent Architects & Wayne Mactaggart and Associates for design development and delivery. The clients were a pleasure to work with and were engaged in the process of design development and detail resolution of materials. The house was designed in timber to weather off and tie in with the surrounding bushland. The project photos were taken 4 years after competition to show the finished result as well as demonstrating how the hard wearing finishes had held up in the harsh coastal climate.

A lot of effort was put into detailing the exterior elements to get them as simple and neat as possible. The black aluminium T section creates a sharp, clean, waterproof corner that is a lot more subtle than the typical detail of a lump of timber to but the boards up against. Not that the angled...

The elevated deck overlooks the wood fired oven in the back yard. Structurally a lot design work was done under the deck so as not to disturb the root system of the gum tree.

The house integrates with its surrounding bushland. A lot of structural design went into not disturbing the root systems of the adjoining trees so as the house looks like it is nestled amongst the trees.

The louvretech louver system used on the house provided a s very clean and delicate solution to sun shading.

The servery window to the right opens right up and has the kitchen bench behind it so when preparing in the kitchen you are connected to the patio area, it also allows for simple serving to the outdoor area.

The low-e double glazed windows help the house stay at a comfortable temperature all year round with minimal heating and no air conditioning. The clients had requested a house that stayed cool naturally with only needing ceiling fans to provide air movement.
