What the client says:
In 2011, we moved to Christchurch [New Zealand] to be closer to elderly grandparents. The earthquake sent us back to Melbourne [Australia], where we began thinking about how all three generations could be together. We investigated an off-the-shelf dual occupancy but instead engaged Panovscott. After discussions about wants, needs, budgets and reality, designs were settled and built. Now we live in a house we love. Three generations and their dog, with spaces for independence and interdependence. Walls slide open, sections can be shut off. Surprises abound and nature brings calm to every room. It is a home that celebrates the nature of family.

What the client says:
Breezeway House began as an idea of escape from the pace of the city and old routines, and a desire to spend more time outdoors. David [Boyle] created a home that is relaxing yet robust, with a strong connection to its surrounding environment. It gives us space to catch up with family and friends, as well as quiet places to retreat or for the kids to explore. The house feels very private and encourages you to slow down and soak up the views of the ocean and landscape at every turn.

What the client says:
Visual experiences make my life fulfilling. Living in this unique setting, in a clever and sympathetically designed home is a never-ending discovery of new experiences. The Pacific Ocean offers an ever-changing scene from fluctuating surf patterns, whales and dolphins frolicking only a short distance from my front lawn and surfers, hang-gliders and a variety of other activities on display. The ‘jewel in the crown’ is my spectacular building, which complements a very unique site. The building, its positioning on the site, and the amenity of the space matches and exceeds my volume of expectations.

What the client says:
One of my favourite things, on approaching the house, whilst walking down a few shallow steps, is to watch the view of bushland and hills framed through the house. To see aspects of garden merging with this natural bush environment from every window gives both of us, who grew up on farms, a familiar sense of expanse and calm. The house adapts – the glass sliding panels between the living areas can be closed for cosiness and warmth, or opened for airiness and space. Our family call our house ‘the retreat’ with its welcoming places for work, relaxation and sleeping.

What the client says:
Rob [Kennon] and his team designed us a beautiful home that complements our lifestyle, with loads of natural light and a living and dining area that open out onto an internal courtyard, equally made for both entertaining and quiet contemplation. We love the seamlessness between the indoor and outdoor spaces, and the interplay of architectural clean lines with the lush greenery.

What the client says:
The house has improved our lives immeasurably. The house has become an urban oasis for us. It is our hidden gem. It is also the perfect size. All the spaces feel generous yet it is a compact build. It is inviting and luxurious, yet simple and humble. It benefits the way we live because it is open and connected, yet everyone has their own space to retreat to if they want. We all feel lucky to live in such an incredible art work. It definitely improves our states of mind just walking in the door.
