DIY Project: Simplify Gift Giving With This Budding Surprise
A cheerful DIY gift that just keeps giving and it's as simple as wrapping a bulb in left-over wallpaper
Gift giving can be a tricky business, but with this simple DIY project, it’s pretty hard to get it wrong. Potted flowering bulbs, such as the fragrant hyacinth featured here, can brighten up any decor. Purchase inexpensive bulbs, plant them in plastic nursery pots and wrap them in decorative paper and string. The plants add a pretty, natural touch to a home space and can make lovely holiday and host gifts. Here’s how to do it.
I chose three hyacinth bulbs of around the same size for their future white blooms
Materials and tools:
- A4 craft paper sheets or scrap wallpaper
- Scissors
- Sticky tape
- Decorative string
Lay the potted bulb at the edge of a sheet of paper. Place it far enough from the paper’s edge to mask the lip of the plastic pot.
Set the bulb up straight and wrap the paper around the pot.
Place some sticky tape at the back to keep the paper in place.
Again lay the bulb on the table, with the tape at the back. Cut a piece of string and place it under the pot.
Tie the string around the pot (one, two or more times) and make the ends even to form the perfect knot.
Do the same with the other pots. You can mix and match papers and strings.
This scrap wallpaper looks elegant, and a linen string adds a more natural touch.
Now you can arrange your bulbs wherever and however you wish, to brighten-up a room…
…or dress your table. They also make gracious holiday gifts.
