I think you might be asking me about seeing our 'new' 80s renovated house - oh the joys of renovating and building - we are months behind - nothing nice to see yet. I am amazed at the amount of technology that goes into a house now - nothing like when we built our present home in the 80s .... lighting (downlights, uprights, garden lights, wall lights, LED, etc, etc with all their switches, dimmers, timers, etc) ... computer cables, security stuff, air-conditioning, heating, thermostats, door/gate intercoms, smoke alarms, TVs (and NBN), music, ad infinitum ... OMG ... and the demands of meeting carbon emission targets put upon us by planning authorities with whatever technology or materials we choose - all good - but guaranteed to do your head, timelines and budget in.

And smoke alarms that have a mind of their own and go off at 3am for no reason at all. I've had to totally disconnect one alarm but it seems to have solved the problem due I'm sure to a very badly thought out building code. Will anyone listen?? No. Don't ever wonder why when you hear of people with non-working alarms. At least I'm very good friends with my local firies now.
