I too suspect this is a problem with your water. I have encountered this problem before. If you are afraid of using CLR you might want to try Barkeepers Friend. Either the powdered form or they sell a spray called MORE which works well.

Thanks very much for this recommendation, Andrea. I'll definitely give Barkeeper's Friend, actually MORE, a try! I tried hydrogen peroxide over the weekend and it actually did the best job of all the many things I've tried. Hoping it's a safe option for colored grout.

I’m glad the hydrogen peroxide worked for you. Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, vinegar and/or lemon juice in various combinations are always the best, least expensive option to try first.
