This project had two required outcomes; develop a bolder garden presence in both the front and back garden, while creating a unique area in the backyard for teenage boys to entertain in. The backyard was a very rocky site which included a bald, exposed rock and multiple levels, but which had an innate native feel - so this was built upon by planting a number of beautiful Australian species, such as Bracelet Honey Myrtle, Kangaroo Paw, Mat Rush, selected succulents, Coastal Rosemary, Japanese Box topiaries, Sweet Viburnum, Bird-of-Paradise, Box and Keteleeri Juniper. To carry the native feel throughout the entire redevelopment, the backyard construction included feature sandstone walling, timber bollards to support lighting and sandstone steps with decomposed granite. To ensure the area fulfilled its entertainment goal, a fire pit was created with timber seating surrounds and a new BBQ enclosure installed, complete with lighting and a gas BBQ for year-round functionality. The exposed rock was turned into a unique feature piece and the garden was punctuated with sculptures, tallowwood posts, sawn sandstone, castlight fittings and terrazzo pots to imbue a modern bent. This feel was carried throughout the front yard where new feature walling, pots and lighting complemented the same plant varieties. The end result is a bold modern garden which boasts year-round entertainment functionality and can be enjoyed by all ages.

The gloriously soft burgundy grass on the right is pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum'. The tree on the left is a Jacaranda which was planted as an advanced tree at around 2m tall and has filled out beautifully.

This is the entrance and driveway to our ‘Strathfield Pool Garden’ project. Neither we or the owners wanted a ‘driveway that looked like a driveway’ so we designed just that. Large format custom cut bluestone pavers are interspersed with native ground cover that seeps and blends into the surrounding gardens which are planted with a mix of hardy exotic and trees and sculpted plants to soften rectilinear lines of the architecture.

Trough style planters were used to add colour and greenery to a paved area and to help disguise a shed. These climbing plants will twine up the mesh creating a fragrant screen or mauve.

A new garden to complement this recently renovated mid-century modern home by Northern Edge Studio. A naturalistic contemporary Australian style garden with native grasses, Kangaroo Paws and native ground covers. New seeded exposed aggregate path around the home and a seating area to be immersed within the garden. Beautiful bluestone steppers slow your pace to walk through the garden.

The design brief was to create a landscape that was harmonious with the existing bush landscape that reflected the natural colours and textures of the property and wider landscape. The design is a contemporary native garden with a series of passive usable spaces which connect to the main alfresco area, pool & spa.
