An abandoned barn gets a new purpose and style. Features such as large windows, outdoor lighting, and dutch door help brighten the inside and outside space. The renovations provided functionality, as well as keeping with the style of the other structures on the property.

Beige siding was selected for this cozy structure in the city. A small lot with limited access meant we had to assemble the structure on site. White trim, black shutters and flower boxes, as well as black doors made this shed a stand out in the neighborhood.

The aim of this project was to bring intimacy and versatility to a duplex backyard with the addition of a new patio, garden, shed, and fence, sourced from treated wood. This project involved removing the existing soil, landscaping, installing fences, building a patio and a shed. Shots of our iconic shed "Hanssel or Gretel". A play on words from the famous story, due to the families last name and this being a his or hers (#heshed #sheshed or #theyshed), but not a play on function. This dynamic homeowner crew uses the shed for their private offices, alongside e-learning, meeting, relaxing and to unwind. This 10'x10' are requires no permit and can be completed in less that 3 days (interior excluded). The exterior space is approximately 40'x40', still required no permitting and was done in conjunction with a landscape designer. Redwood Builders had the pleasure of working with leading SF based architects Seth and Melissa Hanley of Design Blitz to create a sleek and modern backyard "Shudio" structure. Located in their backyard in Sebastopol, the Shudio replaced a falling-down potting shed and brings the best of his-and-hers space planning: a painting studio for her and a beer brewing shed for him. During their frequent backyard parties (which often host more than 90 guests) the Shudio transforms into a bar with easy through traffic and a built in keg-orator. The finishes are simple with the primary surface being charcoal painted T111 with accents of western red cedar and a white washed ash plywood interior. The sliding barn doors and trim are constructed of California redwood. The trellis with its varied pattern creates a shadow pattern that changes throughout the day. The trellis helps to enclose the informal patio (decomposed granite) and provide privacy from neighboring properties. Existing mature rhododendrons were prioritized in the design and protected in place where possible.

We turned this home's two-car garage into a Studio ADU in Van Nuys. The Studio ADU is fully equipped to live independently from the main house. The ADU has a kitchenette, living room space, closet, bedroom space, and a full bathroom. Upon demolition and framing, we reconfigured the garage to be the exact layout we planned for the open concept ADU. We installed brand new windows, drywall, floors, insulation, foundation, and electrical units. The kitchenette has to brand new appliances from the brand General Electric. The stovetop, refrigerator, and microwave have been installed seamlessly into the custom kitchen cabinets. The kitchen has a beautiful stone-polished countertop from the company, Ceasarstone, called Blizzard. The off-white color compliments the bright white oak tone of the floor and the off-white walls. The bathroom is covered with beautiful white marble accents including the vanity and the shower stall. The shower has a custom shower niche with white marble hexagon tiles that match the shower pan of the shower and shower bench. The shower has a large glass-higned door and glass enclosure. The single bowl vanity has a marble countertop that matches the marble tiles of the shower and a modern fixture that is above the square mirror. The studio ADU is perfect for a single person or even two. There is plenty of closet space and bedroom space to fit a queen or king-sized bed. It has brand new ductless air conditioner that keeps the entire unit nice and cool.
