7. Plan a designated private roomHere, an 1892 timber church was converted and extended into a revitalised home in Melbourne. While the charcoal and ivory colour palette provides a cosy feel, the large cathedral windows let in a good deal of light, making this hidden-away space a popular spot in the house. Adding a table and chairs creates a space for coffee with a friend, or a place to host those all-important ‘parents’ meetings’.

Black and gold continue in this sitting room, which was once the original entry to the church. It now links to the media lounge, with windows that look to a garden.

LIttle house for overlooking the garden while dining with somebody. Without any bugs and the hot sun beating down on you.
