New build, and need help with bathroom layout
Comments (10)Hi Katie. I've just finished a reno in a bathroom approximately this size. it looks like the toilet is currently on an exterior wall. if this is the case it can be costly - or not possible to relocate the plumbing. Yes, I know cisterns can be installed in the wall. My plumbers are wary of these ....try fixing a fault without cutting a hole - or holes - in the wall! If you are restricted to the outside wall, I would install a sliding door (gives you more space in the actual room). Leaving the bath and shower where they are saves $$$. if you move the toilet further to the left and install a wall-hung vanity under the window, you could also add a 'half-wall' to the toilet area for privacy. (Wall-hung vanities open the room up. This plan would give you great space on the left hand wall for storage and/or laundry hampers, You could of course switch the bath to the opposite wall, and move the toilet to the current bath area. Moving the door to the right AND installing a slider, would allow this. (BTW I just installed a 1700 bath - 1500's are available too.) Hope this is not too unclear! Enjoy the process!....See MoreFederation house front porch- Change to bathroom?
Comments (6)We did this. Our home is classified as inter-war so after the federation period. Our porch had two arches at the front which we enclosed with frosted glass and we love the result. There is a lot of light that comes through. At the side, we bricked the wall up. We used bricks from other parts of the house which we were renovating so it blended with the original part of the house....See MoreHelp with bathroom layout and exterior door
Comments (10)Thanks Louise. If I take out the external door in the bathroom, I would still like to have an external door somewhere on that side towards the back of the house, so that probably means reducing the size of the bathroom so that I can put a door off the living area where it would fit best like the sketch below. In that case I am worried that the bathroom space is quite small to be a reasonably spacious family bathroom, even if I "pinch" a bit of space from the study next door by designing that room around it. (I think this would still be cheaper than moving the family bathroom to the current study, which is a larger room but would need to be retro-fitted with plumbing etc... - but that is one alternative). Appreciate any other thoughts....See MoreReplacing bathroom vanities without redoing bathroom
Comments (6)depending on the size of the existing vanity it should be possible to have a similar new vanity or a custom unit made to replace the original but a chat with a plumber should be arranged to recommend suitable options and plan a schedule to remove the old and install the new, including any necessary waterproofing or tile repairs..btw careful removal could allow the original sink, taps and even the counter to be saved and recycled into a new vanity that matches the bathroom perfectly with the added option of being able to add different doors or drawers to the cabinet...See Morepharm80
