Generally, make sure pallets are stamped with “HT”, which means they haven’t been exposed to chemicals (at least not in the treating process.) Avoid unmarked pallets or those with “MB” for methyl bromide. Select a warm light to mid neutral colour for the walls - You should also think about adding plants - quite a few of them. Cushions on the lounge will soften the lounge. On the wall add some calming abstract art in soft colours. Ensure that your lighting is warm - make sure the fluorescent lights and spots are warm white and you could always turn off the overhead lights and go for floor lamps and specific task lighting so that your reception area sets up an intimate area in preparation for the client to go back to the counselling areas.

Hello! Lovely space, I have a huge soft spot for these bathrooms. To honour what it is, but make it more enjoyable for your uses PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS. I would either install some shelving to have some dangling vines (or equivalent look) plants up high, or use a hanging fixture into the ceiling. That far corner above the bath would be great. + A large (and tall) pot plant and some smaller ones wherever you can fit them. On top of this, I would replace the doily curtain to a more modern look, perhaps white, wooden blinds? If you can do further work from here, it would be accessories, like the towel rail, and tap ware. Something a little Art Deco for your taps would look amazing. Finish with large, fluffy white towels and bathmats to conceal as much of the colour as possible and brighten the space and a big candle or three, maybe a white stool or ladder too.

Hi Catherine, to help others make suggestions that will be suitable, would you be able to post a drawing of your room please - wall sizes & where the windows/doors are positioned? That way your space can be personalized for you. I think feature walls can look really good in certain spaces... but I think if you like it, do it :) it can easily be repainted over, especially if you have concerns down the track of resale... do what you love & what makes you happy- it will make your office space a happy place that you’ll want to be in & will bring out the best in you & your work :) I’ll be personally interested in responses about a good chair to save your back too... have you found any ergonomic chairs you like? I think your chair purchase will need to be done in store vs online so you can sit on a few & make sure they are a good fit for you & your spine, especially as you’ll be sitting in it for extended periods. As for gadget recommendations, I’m as untech savvy as they come lol - again I’ll be following with interest :)
