Comments (7)I am not sure of these colours and where they are from but I have got a sample here in the images. You don't say how big the area this will be... I would tend to go with a light colour up against the jarrah floors...it looks stunning....dark...will tend to close the room in. Romano or Icelandia would be my choice. Romano you can pick up a colour from this and accessorise with it and Icelandia will go with anything...Hope this helps...take care..Robyn...See MoreIndustrial Chic: Polished Concrete Floors - Yes or No
Comments (10)Hi bagpu55, thanks for your comment, you will find that the level of scratches that come through on the sealer will depend on the type of gloss sealer used. Polyurethane or solvent based sealers last a lot longer and are much more durable, even with animals present. Having said this, the negatives are that solvent based products take some time for the strong smell to escape in a confined environment and are not the most eco-friendly of products. And eventually the scratches will come through particularly in high traffic areas. As for the dust, the gloss will show it a bit more. Based on the fact that you do have a number of animals in your home, you probably will not regret going with the matt finish. The concrete won’t have the ‘wet’ shinny look, but you also won’t be sitting on your couch possibly looking at a lot of scratches on the floor when the light hits it just so. A possible compromise is a satin finish sealer. It will provide some shine and enhancement to the floor without showing as many scratches. I hope this helps you out a bit. Good luck with your choice and post some pics of what your finished floor looks like. Always great to see the finished product!...See Morepolished concrete floors
Comments (18)we have decided to go with concrete floors in our new build. the foundations have just been done, and the team came through and power floated the floor. It rained the next day, which showed us the full effect of what the floor will look like (the builder said its good for it to rain too as means less likely to crack) and we LOVE it! so much so that i rang the builder and asked him to be careful on the hallway floor too as we want to continue the concrete finish up there as well. We arnt going for a ground floor as i find it a bit too busy and we are wanting a more relaxed industrial look. This is the photo i supplied the builder and it looks pretty much the same. The finish is achieved as soon as concrete foundation is poured. they "buff" the concrete, which "burns" the top, giving it quite a organic look. once this is done, the floor needs to be protected from chips etc while they build, then all that needs to be done is sealing once the build is finished. it came in alot cheaper than tile, or wood, but more expensive than carpet. our house is north facing with a lot of glass on that wall. the architect told us that the thermal mass from the flooring will be awesome! keep us updated on what you choose. :)...See MoreNeed help choosing a shower base
Comments (8)You'd have to get expert advice I think they'd have to prepare the floor before laying concrete from what I have heard it is pretty hardy stuff these days and looks wise it's great, as I am no expert you'd have to get a licensed concreter to give you an opinion if it is feasible, as I said it doesn't have grout and as a woman myself keeping grout looking pristine is a full time job and a PIA! I have to agree with you on that one....See MoreRobert Barion
