Hi Emma, I have been giving the front of your houzz some thought. This is such a wonderful website. I have gone through & found some pics I like, just to give you some idea's for thought.Above I like these posts. for your carport, they seem to add a bit of style not boring ! If you would still like to still screen of your front door/entrance from the street perhaps don't take the solid wall all the way to the ceiling. You could add timber slats or some of that laser cut steel screening (endless choices of patterns) that is very popular these days, just adding it to the top section as a feature.I love this front door and the path looks stylish to take your eye away from the flat, boring roof. Maybe change your large window to a framed window that will compliment the front door. Have you thought about replacing the dark roller doors? Below is our 1980's houzz, the garage is around the back of the house, it had 3 Black tilt garage doors that looked horrible outside as well as in (so much frame work on the ceiling). We sold them as is and where, they paid me to take them away ! We then just went for 2 plain white roller, it made a huge difference. We have a huge amount of concrete out back and intend to spray tile the back porch area. I have tried to add some greenery with pots and little garden and water feature. To the right corner of the pic is a concrete ramp to give access to the shed necessary for the Boat & Harley, My husbands midlife crisis. Our block has a 30metre frontage that narrows to the back like a big wedge, we are just trying to make the most of what's not ideal ! I like this idea around the front door as well I'm unsure wether it is tile or brick And this looks good too, the roof over the door comes from nowhere. The path & the potted plant are great features, the plant giving a bit of privacy to the window.

Agree with above posters, remove the lacework from the portico and even the railing (although cant see it too well) I would also remove the large bush in front of the door and in the centre of the front wall and replace with a one or two tall and large statement plants in pots (dark/black/charcoal coloured) and plant out the garden bed with the same plant the full length, maybe a lavender or something to add a pop of colour. Also add good mulch to both garden beds and a bit of a general garden tidy up will help. Adding a top coat to the lawn will pay dividends at this time of the year! If there is any loose or uneven pavers, fix those up. Potential buyers are always looking for clues to gleam whether the house has been well looked after, and these small details can sometimes be a deterant. I think your house looks grand, not boring. If there is a porch light, maybe update that to something black and modern to reference the dark in the pots and a colourful new doormat. I cant see your front door, but if there is no security screen, paint the door a striking new colour which references your internal decor. As others have said, try to spend as little as possible as, there is no guarantee that the extra spending will be reflected in the sale price. All the best with the sale.

What's your budget? That will control everything. Unless you have at least $600K+ min. for something like this you'll have to curtail the dreams demonstrated here............also concur with Retro - there is a much more elegant way of managing an extended building form from a traditional frontage - yes juxtaposing new to old can work, but it needs to take cues from existing and have certain scaling and detail connection, which typically involves expertise and understanding of architectural language and style from both bygone and contemporary eras.............most people trying to DIY extensions/reno design have issues around two main things. 1. Not understanding how design decisions translate to construction costs in the real world and 2. Making critical decisions in the wrong order. Best outcomes are derived from resolving function & practicality first, with aesthetic options evolving appropriately/naturally from that...and of course always making decisions pegged back to budget, contextual and regulatory constraints. Unless you have a comprehensive understanding of these constraints and how to manage them with design, then you're just pushing it uphill. Whilst you can try, you'll hit issues. Your best chance is getting an experienced design professional on board. There is never a single "best" option - there are infinite various of planning possible that will tick the boxes of your needs/requirements. The key is finding the best balance, which takes time, investment and experience. .......this design work and skill still requires human brain work - there is no app that can used as a substitute or a fast-track...... As soon as I see greys and off-whites as main colours , without something to add that Wow , I sort of wonder Why , but thats just me . No-one is offended at Charcoal , it ties in with most colours , its safe , but it adds to most overall schemes . My only real worry with charcoal is that it may get to be what Mission Brown or Forest Green became -- so overdone and tacky that everyone hates it ! A violetty blue , or bright red , or sunshine yellow is more polarising , and natural timber or stacked stone are outside some peoples budgets , but I always like to add something that is just a bit upmarket or bright or unexpected . Your place is sounding like 80% of new builds , whereas a bit of thought and $5k more could give it that extra attention IMO .
