Hi all, we have spent winter up north and now on the never ending task of updating our home. Flooring still not changed at this point waiting on tradesmen for ensuite and kitchen update. I have attached photos of the lounge and family/kitchen. Would like some help re colour/fabric for a window seat on the bay window. I did take away all curtains and blinds have been installed. Kitchen cupboards are a salmon colour and the cabinets can still be used with new doors and side panels replaced. I have always been a lover of white kitchens but not sure of colour for splaceback/tiles/bench. One minute I have made up my mind to have wood on all floors except lounge and bedrooms then someone says what is wrong with your tiles it's a waste of money and a lot of work! I am not sure that a white kitchen would go with the current tiles . Any advise would be more than welcome. Sandra (loving Houzz)

I agree with you ,the painting is not the best choice. Maybe get one with some nautical theme ( waves, beach or sea shells). You can just get a poster and frame it in light color frame. The coffee table you can just sand with a fine grit sandpaper to expose original timber and put some clear warnish to finish like the coffee table in the photo. Cushions is easy just get something like in your sample photo, go to spotlight or Target, if you make mistake it's easy to return. Last thing get rid of clutter that is seen in the background . I think couch is fine ,looks comfy.

I would suggest keeping the brick fire place with a clean up to keep the character. Agree paint the ceiling panels white however keep the beams as the are (if in good condition) to keep the character of the home. Paint the remaining walls white or light grey. The 1/2 brick white wall and timber paneling on the right side does need to come out to help you create the open plan space you are craving. The kitchen area - I'm not sure of size judging by the photo - I would suggest storage/cabinets the full length of the back wall to the windows where the dinning table is and cabinets/draws under the window also. Giving you plenty of storage for the home. I would suggest an island bench with a lower section to use as a dinning table. All your storage is in one place and allowing you to remove the storage you have across the bottom window in the lounge room. giving you more space and more light in the room. Or paint them white also. If you can remove the window coverings and replace with lighter roller blinds that disappear in the white walls or even white block out curtains. It keeps life interesting to have a Summer setting taking advantage of the view and outdoors, then a Winter setting keeping thoughts inside. The room seems large enough to cater for a few seating arrangements. A 3-seater sofa and two armchairs (which can sit together with a small table between) and a coffee table in centre (to cater for kids play time (have a shelf underneath to quickly hide toys in a basket. Then in Summer the 3-seater with it's back to thecupboard wall - although leaving traffic space and maybe a table where the heater was for flowers and framed photos. Then a decorative chair or two to add spice - even a couple of dining chairs look good against a wall, they can look like artwork. Image 1: this is a clever way to hide a TV. Image 2: interesting chairs together Image 3: Great wall unit and tonal colouring. TV's come as mirrors and artwork these days. Image 4: Dining chairs against the wall and walk space behind sofa to outdoors. A TV is behind the sofa, so not being the focal point.
