This photo was taken in winter and indeed usually looks it's best in the cooler months. As far as I'm aware it's reasonably frost tolerant. It's a native plant in the southern parts of Australia, so while we get the occasional frost, I couldn't vouch for it's efficacy in a really cold climate.
