I did it very slowly but I think the demo took about four big days (the floor was four layers of lino, each glued on top of the last...steam was my friend) two days to build and install the cabinetry, two days to fit the plumbing and electrical, and a day to tile the splashback. Spent $4k at IKEA, all cabinets, sink, tap, benchtop, in cupboard and under bench lighting, internal drawers, corner carousel etc. $5k at Harvey Norman for appliances. $400 for splashback tiles.

I love your tiles. I love your benchtop. I also love the slate on the floor. Perhaps not altogether though. I can see that painting the timber panels white will reduce the overall 'busy'....but I think something else has to give. The splashback is your cheapest victim!!. To reduce the 'busy' that even grout lines from tiles can bring- glass splashback (painted same as your walls) would calm it all down and let the bench and floor (and even the texture of the painted panels) be the heroes. Another option- change the benchtop for a warm-toned, less busy stone, keep the splash back as is, brown grout included. Something like Caesarstone: Creme Brulee or Buttermilk. My eye is stuck on the busy-ness and the colour-tone clash.

HI Lyn Depends on where you live, but here in Auckland, Winstone Glass will give you a glass splashback in ANY Resene colour, which would mean you could get exactly what you want. Personally I have a white kitchen with white speckled granite tops, and all walls white, so I went with a black glass splashback that has an ever so slight sparkle at night, doesn't sparkle in daytime. Looks stunning. You can get cheap pre made splashbacks at Mitre 10, Bunnings etc, but they don't use the glasskote technology, so you can see in behind them, whereas Winstones ones, you can have white and not see the wall at all. Thanks for your reply! It will be a cool, pure white on the bottom (the photo makes it look warm, but it's not). This is my inspiration, but the stone bench they have used is Topus which is darker than Ceasarstone. Their grey is also darker. We would have a timber bench installed in the return of our island bench instead of a waterfall edge to bring in some natural warmth. The upper grey cabinets will have vertical grooves as per the inspiration photo above. So the panel between fridge cavity and cabinetry will be white and plain to match, like the bottom drawers. Here is our floorplan: As mentioned, my vision is that it's a light grey benchtop on top of white bottom cabinets, with a contrasting grey upper cabinet. So I'm just not sure the Cloudburst will have enough interesting contrast against the white cabinetry, or will it just look dirty/cream. Any help would be appreciated!
