Needs a new look
Comments (17)Hi Filfy, some great ideas from everyone, mine will probably be quite similar. Firstly, depends how much you want to spend and what look you are after, modernise or modern? Anyway, here are some of my ideas. Take out the Yuccas from front area - they really close in the house there and make it look depressing, replant them, maybe along the front side of house. Repaint the brown timber cladding to something like, Dulux Malay grey or similar. Repaint the Fascias in same Dulux colour as well as the triangular piece on the roof. Take out lattice, do not replace - old and tacky now, very popular years ago though : ) Extend deck along front of house and also bring it forward(if you have the cash), stairs to come forwards (straight out) to meet with path. Decks make a big difference to a house and re-sale IMO. New railing in... Timber posts near Yucca's, are these painted or oiled and stained? See if you could sand these back (I hate sanding-takes time) and stain and oil them, possibly teak? You could re-paint them in Malay grey but stain and oil would make the property look more expensive. Or if you want to render, just do the front of the house and say a metre coming around the side of the house from the front. Could use a grey on the render, paint the slats either a light colour (something that goes with the brick and grey, close to white) or a very dark colour like domino….. Hope this helps.. : )) Below is a link to a big renovation I just finished on the Gold Coast. Comments (14)If you have a bit of storage space then consider buying a couple of inexpensive easy wipe stackable chairs (eg ikea) for visiting kids to use. Parents and you can then relax and enjoy the meal without worrying about your upholstery. Alternatively, tie-on seat cushions will give some protection plus a height boost for little ones....See MoreIdea's needed for this sad area
Comments (6)Hi Margaret, what a great space. I'd put stainless steel decorative screens as Julie Herbert has suggested or a couple of large scale garden mirrors to break up the wall , and between them I'd put a flat large-ish water feature in, then change out the plants in the pots for plants with lime green foliage and invest in garden lighting - there are some amazing LED garden uplights and pond lights that would work brilliantly. I'd also change my throw cushions to a a mix of bright pink, yellow and lime green that will boost....See MoreI need some advice suggestions improving the look of our house
Comments (7)The colours will be important -- do you have them picked ? What I like -- the scrollwork or whatever it is called around the top -- adds a bit of character . What I don't like -- the rest haha . Actually , it does have potential , and I quite like the railing -- simple but not too basic . I'd do a ( probably fake ) octagonal vent fitting in the middle of the roof gable . What I wouldn't do is any sort of veranda or awning -- tempting to , BUT it would look 'strange' with the fact that the gable goes left to right , whereas anything else will slope towards the 'front' . I would paint in off-white , maybe even an English Cream , even towards a mushroomy shade . And then do the rails , the scrolls , the gutters , the bargeboard , the new fake vent in a charcoal , even a greeny/charcoal mix . The railing , in particular , will stand out and add that depth . Then I'd add a couple of large , reasonably colourful pots between the 2 doors , to disguise the 'blandness' there -- maybe one that is 60-80cm wide and as tall , with a 1.5metre plant , the other say 30-40cm with several 30cm tall plants , for variety and 'interest' . The present wall colour is a bit too buttery for me , and the green was too 80's , so an update with a couple of 'features' will really boost things . Of course , you could spend $50k or $250k and do all sorts , but I am thinking closer to $1k plus paint and labour ....See MoreSimpleDecoratingTips.com
