Suggestions for pool area - tiles + cabana?

Hi,
I am in the process of completing my back yard excavations and new Gabion wall.

So after 4 months and many lots of excavation and delivery of stones - the Gabion wall is nearly finished, just some extra drainage to go. Great result so far and its great to get the usable space (approx. 100sqm). The glass pool fence is going in around the top of the pool and between the house and the pool.

The part I now need help with is selecting tiles, plants and ideas for decorating and entertaining space around the pool.

I am thinking Travertine Tiles / Pavers around the pool and at the top of the wall.

Maybe a colour like:

Plants - I am thinking plants at the top of the wall to screen out the Neighbours (the fence will be replaced with a black aluminium one.

What do you think?

Do you want a formal layout for your plants? Some camellias could liven it up with colours.

And the gabion wall - are you happy with it? Was it expensive? I have considered using them on my property but haven't checked out prices.

I wouldn't paint the poles or beam it looks lovely. I think the cream wall at the back stands out too much. It needs to be darker to disappear into the background - literally lol - or stone clad maybe? I think a wood look garage door would do nicely once you have the retained wall & timber slats - as long as you are willing to suffer it sticking out a bit in the meantime.

My piece of advice would be to make sure the plants you select can tolerate being around a pool. This will definitely be a 'splash zone' so any plant species that will get damaged or not cope with salty or chlorinated water. As an example, I have seen a beautiful row of Black Mondo Grass that suffered greatly from the pool water and died. Also be mindful of the size of plants you might be planting close to your pool. Plants with invasive roots or large palms can cause damage to the strucutre of your pool so their locations should be carefully considered. Good luck!

Oh super helpful. I searched for Pool Houses but "Enclosed Pool Houses" have really filtered the designs I was looking for inspiration. Thanks! It's so important I find the right builder for this in my area. I've not had much luck in the past with contractors and really want a smooth build. Cheers!

These decking ideas are great - it's always a good idea to consider the practical as well as the aesthetic! Another practical thing to think about is using the right timber connectors around your pool, because unprotected brackets and post supports can rust away very quickly and make decks unstable and dangerous to use. I like the look of theTravertine paver colour 'Tuscany' as it will compliment both the house and the gambion wall. For plants, as suggested by Neryl Hollingsworth, camillias are evergreen and the flowers will add beautiful colour to the garden.
