Create a platform to showcase a grouping of objects that make you smile, and change it often. Move things around and hang a pendant fixture above the table so it completes theoverall look.

Styling objects involves more than just placing one or two things on top of something, it has to have connection.

For example. Depending on your style. Timber warms up grey and stone nicely as a natural, tactile material, timber exudes warmth and character, instantly makes things feel and look homely because timber tells a story, and has had a life before. That's what makes it appealing to soften harsh, modern interiors.

So consider a beautiful oversized French chopping board, with rough cut edges timeworn and smooth from over use. On top, a pottery jug, to hold some flowers, a beautiful bowl that is just you, maybe it's metal, glass, crystal or stone, could be a trendy geometric wire bowl with some citrus, lemons always look good, and will get used! They have a visual link to the water jug as a vase, and perhaps some culinary books piled under your lemons. As if they have been placed within reach ready for you to use.

A low hung pendant, maybe an industrial steel rim shade coul provide a colour inclusion, powder coated mint green, or flaking burnt orange, whatever your taste, and it would not only light your display, making it useful and beautiful, but would draw your attention away from your lonely single focus in the middle of a table. Styling has to be of a bigger picture, so stand back and build visual layers and the whole room will feel much better.

wonderful advice wish I has your visual talent.. I will invest in some wooden warmth, funny I find because its a brand new house the temptation is to buy new I fear I have overdosed on silver and need to soften or de-shine ( I'm sure I will get sick of the polishing!!! ) lucky I have wooden floors. Its just a matter of balance, you can have your shine, balanced with something less perfect, less smooth, less finished.....timber fits that bill perfectly.

Try collecting a group of things you like, and play around with placing them together in a cute way. Nothings permananet, so have fun styling, and keep building onit, or moving things around as you like, eventually a personal knack for doing so will emerge and youll have a look all your own!
