One of the issues with cooktops in the island is that you should have a range hood above - and pending on your ceiling design this may not be achievable or wanted. Also note that Australian standard states that all cook tops need an isolator switch within 1 meter of the cook top (normally I would put it as part of a double GPO on the splash back close to the cooktop - this can be problematic with an island.) I like to put prep bowls in the islands, but generally leave all main sinks and cooktops in the main kitchen bench, having them with a splash back behind is a lot more practical when it comes to cleaning.

Hi! Number one is to make a space that makes YOU happy and works for YOUR family. Second - having sink or stove on the island means it is front and centre all the time, if cleanliness is something that worries you, then perhaps this isnt the best option. Third - I have seen bench top materials that mean a stove top can be seamlessly integrated underneath, this would solve the presentation issue as it would look like regular part of the bench and be easier to clean than a regular stove top Fourth - What is the layout of your space? Is through the kitchen used as a walk way for little ones? I always recommend that the stove be where the least amount of foot traffic occurs, to the side and out of the way! Good luck

Hi Antionette, hopefully I can offer you some advice on this. 1) visually having the 2 ovens below the counter top in the centre would look better, although if you are planning on staying there for awhile or have older people living with you having them as a wall unit is easier for access. Also in saying that do you want your microwave on that wall also? or can it go in the scullery? If you do want it on that wall it is probably best to have it above the ovens, but not to high (a good height to the very top of the microwave unit is between 1650-1700mm. 2) Love two tone kitchens! I think doing the woodgrain on the overhead units and the island back would be perfect. I did a VERY rough pic to show you the colour combo, works well with the concrete flooring. Glass is great for a splash back however with this size you may need a join in it so just double check that. Otherwise Tiles is another option that would suit that idustrial theme and work well in your kitchen a feature. Maybe hexagon tiles, marble coloured etc what ever you feel looks best. 3) This really depends on if you need the storage although as your scullery is open and you can see it from the kitchen might be good to keep it cohesive. Also if you are working in there at night time this is a great opportunity to add in some LED cabinetry lights. I also noticed that the window isn't centre of your scullery wall I wonder if that could be moved. And also I thought it would look nice if the builder built in a bulkhead above your cabinetry (so there are no gaps between the ceiling and upper cabinets) and make them the same depth as the wall either side. i would prefer not to have a door between pantry and laundry and added the door more for extra light for the windowless laundry but a simple solar skylight will make the laundry bright enough and a floor mounted condensor dryer will avoid the humidity (and depending on upstairs floorplan a laundry shute could be an option?) ... the location of the wall oven shouldn't be a problem (i have a similar arrangement) and keep in mind that the oven door is only opened occasionally standing to the side and the counter (or sink drainer) over the dishwasher is an extra convenient location for a right handed set down space for hot ovenware and, eliminating potential traffic through the laundry, will help make the oven location even better ...but i have to ask the location of any views or north as the windows on the plan seem oddly placed?
