What do you wish you knew before moving into your current home?
Comments (62)@Karen Hodge, I hear you!! Sometimes I think the estate agent should carry quite a bit of the blame actually. If they do their job correctly like you see in the adds on TV, they should bring these discrepancies to the attention of the sellers, stand on their morals and say if you can't get it better than this, then you'll have to find someone else to sell your home!! I know you can't make everybody "house proud" but the saying "do unto others" springs to mind. I bet if these same people bought a house not up to scratch, "a current affair" would hear about it but they don't think it wrong to simply walk out on a house that isn't being left nicely for the next family!! I have some friends that recently sold a house in Essendon, Melb and whilst the buyers were back and forth selling their own home, my friends kept watering the plants and even did things like painted out the wardrobes because of the scuff marks made over time!! They cleaned the entire two storey house from top to bottom and finished by mopping the floors as they were exiting. The buyers were so taken by the entire home, they bought it with almost all the furniture that my friends had in it!!...See MoreWhat does/n't your partner do that drives you nuts?
Comments (59)oskuee..pulling down his pants doesn't have the same effect though.. I'd rather leave him alone to wash my dishes.. if I hit him he'll say I'm a husband basher.. I go into work after hours as I get more done only when he's not around ..when he's around he causes havoc a squeeze here a fondle there..thank goodness we haven't had to have the security camera tapes reviewed lol even when his staff is around he'd pull me in between the shelves then poke his head out to see if anyone is watching lol or worse still into the back of the shop close the door and monitor his staff from the computer screen lol I can't win.. at night I can't sleep as I'd get into bed fall asleep and he'd fiddle with me any hours of the night.. if I fall asleep after he does I can't sleep as he snores.. result is me walking around like a zombie hehehe his sisters and nieces thinks I'm lucky as he adores me..there are days I just want to find him a second wife so he can annoy her half the week lol so now I'm half the week away..so for three nights I get proper sleep..can't function without sleep I'll crash .....See MoreDo you have a retirement plan for your home?
Comments (31)We're already at the "old age" with problems stage, so have gradually adapted most areas to suit our limitations. What has amazed me is how suddenly the body changes have seemed to come all at once. We have a 4x2 on a quarter acre close to amenities, and I would hate not to have it. I love having all our varied fruit trees and raised garden beds, but admit I have a strong young man to help for 2 hours a week. Had spinal and knee ops last year which has limited what I can do. Bad part of getting old is the mind staying young - tells the body to do something beyond it's present state. Example is lifting a huge bag of fertiliser out of car boot. Result was spinal surgery, and being told that lifting heavy objects will put me back under the knife. The 1 thing left to do in the bathrooms is install higher toilets, as the knees don't bend so well any more. Walk in showers, bidet toilet seats, and heated bathrooms are a boon, and grab rails are well used. We have a small step to the patio, but have installed a ramp for that, otherwise we have no other steps. Rugs and carpet have been replaced with tile which is easier for using walking frame. Installed more and brighter lights for OH,s fading eyesight, and replaced our t.v. with a larger one. Have enclosed part of our huge patio to create a sunroom off the family room. This brings more warmth into it when the sliding doors are open, and we can vent the heat in the hotter summer months. Our next project is to replace our [only] 4 years old kitchen so we don't have to bend or stretch so much to reach what we need, especially all my appliances and gadgets. Now all we have to do is hope we live long enough to enjoy it lol !...See MoreHow many cars do you have in your household?
Comments (14)I have to have a car to get to work, our public transport is so poor. I have had my car for 3 years and 9 months I have done 11000 kilometres in that time. I rarely use it on weekends or holidays, I walk to shops etc. my husband also needs a car to get to work as no public transport to his work. We tend to use his on weekend mainly as we have tandem car parking and mine is always in front. I drive a Suzuki swift, I fill it up about every 4-6 weeks, it is a bit of a joke really. When we retire we will go to one car I presume...See MoreJenny
