Hi tashnmitch, I know you like the island, everyone likes the island, but I'll have to agree with mattban and haephestus here, I'm afraid the galley kitchen isn't going to work or be very practical... Besides the point raised above about not enough room between the island seats and the stacker door, there are other spacing issues. 1. You've got just over 1m between the island and the cabinetry/bench where the stove top is, restricting passage particularly when say dishwasher is open, etc (or oven, but I imagine the oven would be in a tower) 2. Island with sinks in them usually require to be a bit wider than 900mm as you need at least 550mm for the sink itself, otherwise it doesn't leave much comfortable space for eating if seated behind the sink 3. If you currently have a full pantry as it stands, just be aware that you're reducing your pantry space by more than half, personally wouldn't compromise on storage 4. I would prefer an island looking at the open plan, just personal pref as I like to watch tv from the kitchen :) but more importantly ideally shouldn't it be the ppl seated at the island looking out? Anyway, just some food for thought, I'm sure you'll work something out and what works best for you, but I would personally consider haephestus suggestion which is on the right track in my opinion... ... very wide galley kitchen with benchtop to the pantry along the exterior wall and bi-fold window with servery to outdoor area... Yes I'm very pleased with the results, it was worth the work and time (and money) I like the black stools and they are very comfortable too. I just bought the new kettle and toaster they are white and they are kept in the appliances cupboard. I did bought a new coffee machine (delonghi Grand MAestria) in silver and I placed it on the benchtop as it doesn't fit in the appliances cupboard. The touch of colour will have to be the fresh flowers and fruit basket! Speak soon!

Congratulations on your new home. I can't tell what your kitchen cupboards are made from by your photo, but there is a laminate paint available that is suitable for vertical surfaces, but you wouldn't use it on a benchtop. Never choose a splashback after you have selected benchtop and cupboards. They should be selected together to work in harmony as you see all three elements together. If your budget is tight I would keep the splashback and benchtop, as they are very neutral, will work with your furniture, and are expensive to replace. Concentrate on finding the right laminate paint colour first and then the wall colours. Don't rely on paint colours that you see online as they are always different in real life. Annette, Have a look at this. Not having dimensions is tricky but if something like this will work all well and good. The important things are to ensure the toilet has light and ventilation. That the doors from garage into kitchen is not a zig zag course. Use a glazed door for the laundry, That there is benching of at least 1200 to 1500 beside cooktop and sink. In this plan the fridge has lots of breathing space and pantry can become an extra work space if you need it. As long as the doors are out of the traffic way. BUT as I say without the measurements...... If the door hall to laundry (at top) would work for you then the fridge could back into the doorway at end of island but the trip around would be further with shopping from the car.+ - ? I hope this helps and note to others: work out ALL the details before getting to framing. Frame is easy to move but further on it is more difficult to rearrange. Good Luck, Margot
