Need help with my new kitchen
Comments (21)Did u actually pick the colour from a colour card and agreed on that with the kitchen company? If so, have u still got the colour card? If so, put the card up against you cupboards in the (daytime) and then again in the (evening), when not a lot of light is reflecting. Paint always looks different on walls etc than they do on the colour card. It depends on the lighting in the room. The colour of the walls or floor throw off reflections, so can actually make the colour seem different. 1/.. If this is what's happened, your stuck with the colour.Your just looking at a bland kitchen and only the paint colour is in your face. So stands out alone. But honestly, wait till all the kitchen is finished and furnished ect, as you will find the colour won't affect you as much. 2/.. If it's not the colour you chose, and you can prove it, you can either get them to give u a big discount or have them re do it. It's that simple. I'm sure you'll find that once all is completed, it will be fine....See MoreNeed help with my kitchen cabinet selection

Comments (37)Hi iggs85 as it is an older kitchen I would not spend a huge amount of money on a revamp. It is definitely possible to paint laminate but good preparation is vital to ensure the paint 'sticks'. However a quality painter is going to charge you about the same as your resurfacing quote. Using either a painter or a resurfacing company does let you choose any colour though. The biggest disadvantage of the current benchtop is the bullnose which is very dated. From your photo, the colour and pattern look OK but you could get a stone 'overlay' put on it. They square off the bullnose so it looks more contemporary. An acrylic feature panel on the return is another alternative to vinyl planks. It looks like glass, comes in a good range of colours and is relatively inexpensive compared to glass. See http://zenolite.com/range as an example. You can buy acrylic sheets from Bunnings. You could also use pressed metal panels as a feature eg. http://www.wunderlite.com.au/catalogue/details/1/79/pressed-metal-crystal?start=25 Add some new handles on doors and drawers too....See MoreNeed help with landscaping and minor kitchen changes
Comments (4)Hi Aravind, Personally I'm a fan of minimising impervious surfaces, and would try to attain different levels of landscaping with native vegetation, lawn & permeable paving. This doesn't sound like what you are looking to do, but if you do go ahead with concreting a large portion of your backyard, keep in mind that water which would have gone into the ground will be redirected to somewhere new. Definitely make sure that the concrete slopes away from your house to avoid damaging your footings/house (instead of the potential termites doing it). Regarding the kitchen, it can often be worth chatting to an architect/building designer if you are likely to do more renovations down the track. They will be able to help you come up with (and draw up) an overall concept so that you know that your kitchen will work with any future renovations and don't end up knocking down or redoing anything, which can save you down the track. An example would be if your kitchen was not in the best location to make use of your living spaces or faced the wrong way. If you were gutting the whole thing, you could be better off moving it now to increase the livability/value later. A joiner or cabinet-maker will be able to go into detail with you and get it built....See Morelegendaryflame
