Thanks for this suggestion. I need to be as snug as possible in the cold winter months here in Beechworth, ( the rest of the year is glorious), and I'm looking for the most effective insulation for the windows. I believed cellular blockouts would achieve this, but then thought Double glazing + blockout might be "over the top". I can't see draped curtains being so effective; perhaps I might settle for the blinds, and add some curtains for decorative effect. I can pay $3000.00 if they will achieve the insulation I need.

Hello, this is exactly why window treatment specialists such as ourselves exist! There are a lot of options depending on your preference for internal look. Some simple ideas such a dual roller blinds have already been referenced. You’ll have to meet with a consultant to see how two fabrics pair, especially if you’re considering one being light filtering. You can also mix treatments such as a dark roller blind recess fit to the window, and a light roman blind fit over the architrave which will give you a soft fabric finish. Alternatively white plantation shutters contrasting an exterior black window frame can actually look really stunning. It does depend on the style of the black framing you use. Different rooms will need diff solutions. You can hang blinds on the windows themselves or mount blinds or curtains on wall above window, just make sure they are mounted out far enough for the window to be tilted open and with curtains that you can draw them back clear of the window to allow it to swing open. Looks like you have wall space in the living pictured.

You could go with curtains that run across the whole wall that follow the fall of the ceiling. This would read as one large fabric ‘wall’ rather than two angled ‘slices’ of window making the space seem larger. A double track system with blockout and sheers would stop the hot sun and still allow beautiful softened light in the room and full view with curtains pulled back.
