need help with finding an exhaust wall fan for bathroom

Im renovating my bathroom but am trying to find a solution for better ventilation. We have a window but we really cant open this whilst having a shower due to lack of privacy. As we live in an old flat we cant get a ceiling exhaust fan as their is a flat above us.

The only thing i can think of and have seen other units do this, is to get a wall ventilation fan installed in the bulkhead above the mirror. The bulkhead is part of the plumbing stack. The only problem i have is trying to find a nice exhaust fan that looks smart. I like the ixl neo vent modules http://www.ixlappliances.com.au/tastics/html/neoventmodule.html but were told these were for ceilings.

I was also thinking to get an old style vent such as this http://baileyinteriors.com.au/vents/decorative-plaster-vents-bvt003, which will be in keeping with the building but not sure if there is a product i can buy that vents the air out whilst using this old style vent.

Anyone have any ideas? Please help. This one is the only thing i am really lost on with our renos and we desparately need better ventilation in the bathroom.

There are those with mesh and those with a panelled front. This photo has both;

There may be others too but of these two I would look for a panelled version.

Thanks Luke, regarding the panelled front exhausts, have you seen any in the market that looks very slimline? The ones ive seen are pretty ugly.

Do you know if i got a separate vent, whether i could get an electrician to attach it to an exhaust fan that can duct the steam out?

Otherwise , happy to hear other solutions for a steamy bathroom.

We renovated our 2400x3000 bathroom with a layout along the lines of Siriuskey's suggestion. We allowed 900 for bath (includes space to get mop in around back -use a narrower built-in or back to wall style free-standing to conserve on width) 900 for shower (could go down to 800 since elbow room is 'shared' with bath). We have extra space around the toilet, so your slightly smaller dimensions should be ok. We have towel rail opposite shower (with a heating vent to keep the space warm when drying off plus help dry out the shower cubicle), but they could be placed above bath if vanity needs to go there. If this is just a budget improvement then I would try to fix the cracked tiles and missing grout, paint the window frame white and add white shutters on the window, paint the vanity white (although I don't like doing that either) and get new handles and taps, toilet roll holder etc., install a lovely white potted plant, as shown above and white fluffy towels. A new white frame on the mirror or replace it with a slightly smaller white framed one. Then I would save up for a white stone bench top or stone overlay bench top and the cream will go nicely with all of it. Unfortunately your shower seems to be the most dated part. If you try to change the door you may find that you have missing tiles, although new floor tiles in the shower would probably look OK and add a glass hinged door. Good luck.

Think of recessing the Mirrored shaving cabinets as being recessed the same as the Niches in the shower wall, simply they remove/cut out the plaster board to the size/position and shape and frame that up with timber. The plaster board on the back of the recess belongs to the room behind and is the wall for that room, so makes no difference to your WIR. Just a thought if you go for the recessed wall cistern, when my brother inlaw did theirs the Architect suggested that they have a discreet panel screwed back over it, not fixed and plastered so that if any problems developed, Leaks etc it would be easy to access cheers

For storage, I used a mirrored lift up cupboard door above the sink area in my very small ensuite with some success. We put power points inside the cupboard too - it was a very good place to have them as the door lifts up & is out of the way. I also used some of the wall space to allow slightly deeper shelves, without the cupboard jutting so far into the room. The cistern was recessed into the wall cavity, (in our case below the window) & it worked well to save a little space in the room. Photos are not very good, but I hope you can get the idea.. It worked very well. The ensuite was 1mx2m. We use vertical towel rails. They're really good & very compact, but do make sure the electrician installs them up the right way. They work on the heat rising principal & do not work well upside down as ours were installed!Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
