Hi there, having recently been through a similar decision process for our Reno I can really recommend ordering the Dulux A4 samples. They are made with the real paint on them so you can move them around from room to room to see exactly what it will look like without having a heap of swatches painted on the wall. They have a sticker backing but I used blu-tac so 8 could move them over and over. Good luck

Hi Alyssa Alban, For your floor boards - polyurethane with a satin finish is great for high traffic areas or if you have kids and/or pets. It is a hard wearing surface. The alternative is tongue oil for a more natural finish. A stain could be applied to change the colour and feel of the rooms. As for the walls and trims - if you want to keep the traditional look, I would suggest to maintain the timber trims or, if you would like to freshen or lighten up the scheme, I would use Dulux Natural White Acrylic Wash and Wear for the walls, and Dulux Natural White satin on the trims. If you're thinking about the doors, I would go with Dulux Natural White in semi-gloss, which is a nice clean finish. Thanks. House completed a while back. Builder did all trim and doors in vivid white. Ceilings in ceiling white. Left it to them.

Alenka, thanks for sharing those photos. How wonderful. When I moved up to the Macedon Ranges I swore I didn’t want exposed brick or wood paneling. I’d only lived in Victorian, federation or cal bungalow houses in Melbourne, though I appreciate mid century modern design. Then I fell in love with and bought the house in the photo (but hate the light fitting). Even though our family circumstances changed and we had to sell I still love the authenticity of the materials, the attention to detail and the connection all of the rooms have with the outdoors, including main bathroom and toilet. Really bad orientation though so it was cold and dark and very hard to heat in winter. Cool in summer however. Our new build will draw on some of the best aspects of this house, and will include internal recycled brick walls in some rooms for thermal mass and interest, indoor outdoor flow and courtyards, raked ceilings etc, but 8 star energy rating and oriented to take advantage of northern light. I love your house.
