Fun kitchen/living space floors - dark, light, or natural?
Comments (23)One thing I love about the graphite cabinet color I want to use is that it is a stain - not paint. The stain is on maple (can also do cherry) cabinets so you still pick up some flecks of the natural wood color in the stain - which I think would draw in the light stain hardwood floors! I'm looking at Marsh Kitchen Savannah 1 cabinets in graphite - made in NC!! I am attaching a picture. This pic is actually the cherry cabinet because the photo is actually much more like the maple, graphite-stained cabinet as it looks in person. The pic of the maple one looks kinda cheap - doesn't do it justice....See MoreKitchen flooring: rustic, dark or light hardwood?
Comments (14)I like the contrast of the dark floor with the light color cabinets. There are things to consider before doing a dark floor 1. You will have I clean it more often because dirt will show up more 2. Scratches and dents are more prevalent. If you like dark floor but are worried about stuff showing up, my suggestion would be to use a penetrating oil like Rubio Monocoat. The reason being its a matte sheen and actually looks better as it ages. Best of luck as you decide :)...See MoreWhat can I do with these dark walls? Paint white?????
Comments (24)Hi Maria, we love the wood but it is a little overwhelming in that space with the timber floor. A liming white is a great idea as mentioned by a few people here. This will let you have the best of both worlds, a lighter, brighter finish while still allowing the wood grain to show through. You could try Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish (yes, it's not a floor but it has the size of a floor!) and build up the number of coats until you are happy with the amount of timber grain showing through. You'll probably need to give it a light sand first as it's most likely already got some type of coating on it. The other option would be to leave the walls as is and consider a large, light neutral coloured rug as pompom suggested on the timber floor and perhaps a good sized piece of art on the wall or white wall shelving instead of the dark side unit you have to reduce the amount of timber in the room....See MoreAustralian White Wash / Lime Wash Products
Comments (8)I've used the Feast Watson Liming White. I wanted a finish on pine that wasn't going to look yellow, like the majority of polyurethanes do, but not a heavy whitewash finish. I did 2 coats to get the desired effect, retained the non yellow pine colour and grain showing through. The more coats you apply, the more whitewashed the effect is. Probably a quicker way to achieve your desired affect would be to use a white paint, water based, as a base coat, apply with brush or roller then wipe it off evenly with a rag, then apply a topcoat of water based non yellowing polyurethane to seal. Otherwise numerous coats, 3+, of any of the liming & poly product will be required....See Moremrjudsonjames
