Recommend me a timeless upholstered bed color?
Comments (12)the only one that won't really go with yellow is the beige one and even that one, dependent on the "yellow" could possibly blend in. If it were me, I would go with the grey, but that is just me. The charcoal may be the most versatile, but i don't really like it....See MoreLooking for advice for kitchen colour scheme
Comments (38)Hello again, thank you for the input. I've taken it all on board. Regarding the island, we will be sticking with Knights Grey but if we choose a very dark floorboard, we will then switch to Timeless Grey (which happened to be one of the swatches I'd picked up anyway!) to avoid that sinking effect. Thanks for the tip. I won't be able to get back out this week to check the Dulux Raku colour, did I mention that I'm getting around with a 1 month old and 2 year old? They are totally dictating my schedule! Ann I'm not sure exactly how they get half strength. I just have the understanding that paint looks darker on a wall than it does on the sample card so to always opt for a lighter shade to counter that effect. So to avoid the Snowy Mountains colour looking too dark, I will go for a half strength. Worst case, I figure, is that it will just be a touch lighter than what I'd expected. There wasn't consistency between the three separate Snowy Mountains cards that I ended up with so I guess it's to be expected anyway. Thanks for sharing your experience Antonia, it's good to know it works. Today I went out to Beaumont Tiles to try and find a tile like the one I attached to my original post. This was surprisingly difficult to match and I've borrowed a sample of the closest match from the store to mull it over. The colour seems to work quite well against all my samples but I'm worried about the wavy edge and how it will appear on the wall when grouted. On the one hand I'm worried it will look too busy or untidy, on the other hand I think it could be a winner because it could add some depth or interest to an otherwise boring subway tile splash back. I've attached the tile against my samples and also Tranquil Retreat (half strength) wall with Vivid White trim. Please tell me what you think :)...See MoreLooking for kitchen lighting solutions
Comments (18)I would highly recommend redesigning the ceiling fixtures, rather than working around what's already there. It's cluttered and lopsided; and you will probably regret it, or spend much more $ fixing it afterwards. I'm 1/2 way through my kitchen project with a large island hub. To make space for the pendants, I removed two round fluoro's, moved an A/C outlet (and another in the adjacent room with a sky-light), then patched and painted. It's all simple stuff, you just have to design around the ceiling joists, and usually the previous cut-outs are left in the roof (makes it easy to patch). I also installed an electronic sky-light from Bunnings for the in-laws, which is perfect for small roof-space issues. A very small PV panel goes on the north-side of the roof, a slim LED panel goes in the kitchen ceiling, and a long power cable links the two....See MoreWhat product can I use to achieve this look in my kitchen?
Comments (18)Well now after reading all these posts, I have a dilemma. We would like to maximize the practicality of the deep and soft closing drawers. Corner drawers, the under sink u-shaped drawers etc. Thirty five years ago (yep that's right 35 yrs) when our budget did not allow us to buy new, we bought a dismantled u-shaped show-room demonstration timber kitchen. For years it was blonde pine. Solid pine benchtops, re-sanded and stained a couple of times. Then my husband painted all the solid timber doors with antique white USA marine paint which has worn well. New satin knobs (that have not worn as well) Now it's becoming a little 'shabby chic'. We thought of a complete reno. But we have no space to enlarge on the 3x3 metres. and new 'plastic' kitchens somehow seem less durable than our existing old one. Sink, stove and fridge in the recommended triangle floorplan. So what to do? Our pantry is in the corner with shelves that items at the back of are inaccessible. The microwave is the perfect shoulder level. The cabinets allow me to display favourite tins, crockery and vintage scales. Being a split level house I need the broom cupboard and ironing board stored close at hand....See Moreacm
