Would you rather: No dishwasher or no air-con?
Comments (41)Lorraine, even though this is an old post, I thought I would put my two cents in. I’m with you. My husband and I have been married for over 30 years, and he washes the dishes and I dry them, every night. We have our own business and family and are buggered at the end of the day, but this is our time to talk about the day and get ready for tomorrow. Our dishwasher also wasn’t working, apparently it was because we weren’t using it enough. I now use it when we have gatherings or when my daughter decides to cook up a storm! We also only use our aircon when we have had consistently hot days over 35 degrees. I’m in Perth so summer can be hot. However we built our home with solar passive principles in mind, and it definitely makes a difference. So yes I don’t need a dishwasher but an air cooling system does come in handy....See MoreAir con unit in the way of my room design...
Comments (8)Hi Christine, there is a few options as listed above. You can build shelves and storage units around your wall split system air conditioner though make sure that you leave space around the indoor unit. I would leave at least 100mm around the entire unit at a minimum. Wall splits draw the air inside the room through the top of the unit and out through the bottom louvers. Alternatively, have your air conditioning tech/ Electrician decommission and remove and re install in an alternative position. If its done by a licensed technician he should be able to pump the refrigerant down into the units compressor and easily move and reconnect without any problems or the need to re-gas the unit. Holes in plaster are fairly easy to patch, and if you are putting shelves or storage back in its place it doesn't have to be a perfect finish. Hope this helps you out and the Mummy Cave gets a lot of use. All the best, Liam - Suburban Splits Australia...See MoreLiving room wall decoration ideas
Comments (8)We think the photo montage might be better placed to the side of the television as artwork can be visually distracting above the tv. The air conditioner also provides another visual element on the wall. Something bold and bright to inject some colour where the frame montage is currently hanging would minimise the visual presence of the air conditioner. Comments (23)I'd echo most others views -- personally , I could live with the aircon and the lights , but the furniture and the mirrors would go ! Again , just personally , I don't have a problem with the mirrors sizes , it's the silver that doesn't suit . I'd go approx 20% smaller mirrors , BUT with really nice wide sculpted dark wooden frames , and lift them a bit -- they almost look like they are sitting on the mantlepieces at present -- lifting them would show more balance IMO . Lounge suite I'd go big , boxy , good quality bright red leather . A modern corner suite would probably suit , or one with a moden interpretation of a chaise , but in big boxy red leather . Or maybe a more classic looking buttoned leather suite , just not in brown -- that would be too much brown . Red or white would work well . The dining suite could be a large 8 seater wooden table in darker brown ( that mahogony one clashes to me ) , or glass top and stainless if you want to be more modern , and modern red chairs -- several styles would work , depending on what table you choose , and how modern you want to be . And for a more modern twist on the windows -- wooden slat blinds -- I have done very similar in my own 95 year old place , and it works well ! My place is similar , although it doesn't have those higher picture rails -- my place has carved rails approx 1.2mtr above the floor level , and Rimu panelling ( a NZ wood ) below that -- has that 'gentlemans club' feel . I did the walls above that in a mid steel blue in some rooms , a grape colour in others , english cream in a couple , and an earthy orangey-brown with white gloss tiles in the kitchen ! And in most rooms , I did a feature wall , wallpapered in complimentary colours to the other 3 walls in that room ! Strange sounding I know , but it works ! In the larger rooms and entrance foyer , I have large gold waterfall chandaliers , the other rooms I have gold curved light bars with 4 to 6 led spotlights -- all with crisp white ceilings similar to yours , and art deco inspired ceiling roses and architraves . I love the mix of classic and modern , with a twist of class...See Morenewgardener
