Help, my front door doesn't scream 'Welcome'!
Comments (42)Replace the front door and joining window with a set of double doors - either solid oak or just classic glossy black. They will add value to your home, personality and will make life easier when it comes to moving in or out large sized pieces of furniture that can be a headache if you tried to fit through a single door. The path to the front door can either be painted a colour of your own choice or even paved, while I would also add a border of either pebbles or flowers (e.g. Lavender, Geraniums, Agapanthus, what ever suits your fancy ) down the right hand side of the path to add colour and a visual aspect to your front yard. Make sure your whole front yard looks neat, clean and tidy. If possible, employ the services of a landscape artist. Though highly expensive, he or she may give some quality advice in how to capitalise on your existing garden....See MoreDoes living room furniture match?
Comments (3)Without knowing exactly what your layout is, I throw this idea up, to be shot down by those who know better than I do. You have "a beautiful navy two seater." You have a new baby on the way. You're on a tight budget. Why not keep your existing furniture, buy a nice chair to fill up the gaps, and an inexpensive carpet which will withstand baby issues? To me, a home is something to be lived in, that fits my lifestyle and my budget. If my home isn't every going to figure in a design magazine (and it isn't), that's okay, because I don't want to be sitting up nights worrying about bills, or splashing out money for cheap furniture that looks good but doesn't last past the second child....See MoreHave you inherited furniture?
Comments (8)I was left by my grandmother a lovely smallish hallstand. I used to climb in to the lower shelf and watch the adults when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I loved it! She had the old black bakelite phone on it in the hallway. It is shaped on both levels like a clover, so I always called it the Irish table. I painted it turquoise a while ago as the black varnish had become damaged over the years. It was made in the 1930's and was a wedding present to my Nanna. I repainted it white recently and I use it for holding a lamp, and a plant underneath....See MoreFurniture Matching.
Comments (1)You're in luck, eclectic wabi sabi boho is in and matchy matchy is out, so they say. Not that I necessarily listen to them. I have seen beautiful rooms with exquisitely matched decor and beautiful rooms with joyously varied features. It can work well either way....See MoreUser
